MUST-READ: Peer-reviewed article in journal Science says solar activity impacts climate

From Investors Business Daily. (H/T Andrew)

Excerpt:

The Aug. 28 issue of the journal Science details how the scientific team led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), using a century’s worth of data and three powerful computer models, figured out just how small changes in solar activity can trigger great changes in earth’s climate.

[…]The world has significantly cooled in the last decade, a period that corresponds to a decline and virtual halt in sunspot activity. Solar activity is in a valley right now, the deepest of the past century. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that in 2008 and 2009 the sun set Space Age records for low sunspot counts, weak solar wind and low solar radiance.

R. Timothy Patterson, professor of geology and director of the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Center of Canada’s Carleton University, has said that “CO2 variations show little correlation with our planet’s climate on long-, medium- and even short-time scales.”

Rather, he says, “I and the first-class scientists I work with are consistently finding excellent correlations between the regular fluctuations of the sun and earthly climate. This is not surprising. The sun and the stars are the ultimate source of energy on this planet.”

A Hoover Institution Study a few years back examined historical data and came to a similar conclusion. “The effects of solar activity and volcanoes are impossible to miss. Temperatures fluctuated exactly as expected, and the pattern was so clear that, statistically, the odds of the correlation existing by chance were less than one in 100,” according to Hoover fellow Bruce Berkowitz.

Another day, another disproof of anthropogenic catastrophic man-made global warming.

Obama praises non-traditional families on National Family Day

Story in Life Site News.

Excerpt:

President Obama has included homosexual couples raising children in a list of “American families” in a recent proclamation declaring Monday National Family Day.

“Whether children are raised by two parents, a single parent, grandparents, a same-sex couple, or a guardian,” said Obama in the proclamation, “families encourage us to do our best and enable us to accomplish great things.”

The president went on to encourage participation in Family Day by sharing an evening meal as a family unit.  “A strong nation is made up of strong families, and on this Family Day, we rededicate ourselves to ensuring that every American family has the chance to build a better, healthier future for themselves and their children,” he said.

The family day proclamation is in keeping with Obama’s oft-professed support for the homosexualist agenda.

When Obama proclaimed June “LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Pride Month,” he reiterated that he supports several issues on the homosexual docket, including homosexual hate crime legislation, homosexual “affirmative action” in the workplace, allowing open homosexuals in the military, and adoption to homosexual couples.

During the same month, Obama signed a presidential memorandum extending spousal benefits to homosexual partners and other unmarried partners of federal employees.

Remember, lots of Christians voted for Obama.

How does the promotion and celebration of adult selfishness over the needs of children square with a Christian worldview? Children do best when they are raised by two opposite-sex parents, linked to them biologically, who stay together in  a stable, loving relationship. Children have a right to their mother and father.

Los Angeles privatizes 250 campuses to improve education quality

Ed Morrissey reports Hot Air. (H/T Neil Simpson)

Excerpt:

A month ago, the Los Angeles Unified School District chose to privatize more than 250 of its campuses in a desperate attempt to reverse decades of decline in the nation’s second-largest school district.

[…]At the time, I wrote that this would have that effect, especially when scores and graduation rates improve. The unions insist that the only difference between charter schools and normal public schools is that parents get more involved in the former, but that’s because parents can get involved in shaping the curriculum at these alternatives. They do not get shut out by a sclerotic union-protection system and a picket fence of federal and state mandates. That allows parents to make a difference, which encourages participation.

There is a great video showing the union bullies and the educrats complaining at Ed’s Hot Air post.
