We try to talk to you about school choice and you can’t, so we play video games instead. Your fault. Not our fault. We also like talking about tax policy and foreign policy, but education policy first. If a woman doesn’t know what a voucher is, then she might as well be a giant lobster. And men don’t like to talk to lobstrosities.

And I think that this whole notion of free market – of choice and competition benefiting the consumer (parents) – applies to everything that government does, especially education and health care. Go Capitalism!

I haven’t listened to the podcast as yet, but thought I’d offer this quick, immediate reply before I get busy with other things and forget at a later time…. I just wanted to say that I had Dr. Grudem as a professor when he was at TEDS in the late ’80s. He was a gracious, good-humored and humble man who truly practiced what he preached (and what he tried to instill in his students), which included a love for reading, studying and living out the Word of God. For me, that experience of his personal integrity and holiness will undoubtedly make the message of the podcast resonate even more ! :-)

Thank you for the Wayne Grudem links – especially the PDF for those of us who can’t watch long videos online. I plan on reading it. Grudem is good.
However, I do take issue with this statement on your part, Wintery:

[Draws self up to full height (not very high)] Gross generalizations from first to last!
Firstly, the women who are reading a blog entry entitled “Wayne Grudem explains what the Bible says about parents and schools” are interested in precisely that subject or they wouldn’t be reading the blog post in the first place. So, even if women were particularly the culprits in this area, as you seem to believe, the ones reading your post aren’t. You’re preaching to the converted and accusing them (all your italicized references to “you”) while you’re at it.
Secondly, perhaps things are like that with regard to women in general in America, but they’re certainly not like that where I live. If Christian men try to speak to women about educational policy, they certainly aren’t speaking to me. I’ve had discussions on the topic – with Christian WOMEN (including a more mature lady I know who did her thesis at Bible college on the subject of Christian education) and with an atheist friend who ironically spends more time discussing these kinds of topics with me than most of my male Christian friends.
Thirdly, even if all your assertions about Christian women were true, it certainly wouldn’t be the only reason why men don’t marry. For example, SOME women have contributed to men not marrying, chiefly through feminist attitudes (belittling men and masculinity, giving too much to men with too little commitment in return, etc). However, another major factor is simple laziness on the part of CERTAIN men (note that I prefer not to generalize) – the “adultescence” phenomenon.
Perhaps you’ve had negative experiences and if so, I’m sorry to hear that. But please don’t generalize and accuse us unfairly. It certainly doesn’t make US want to marry. Perhaps, I’ll go play a video game instead… [raises eyebrow]

Hey Wintery, was wondering do you have any good articles or podcasts you can point me to arguing in favour of social conservatism, not from the Bible but using secular reasoning?
Obviously I’ve got the talks on marriage by Morse and Gallagher, but what abotu other issues, or just social conservatism in general? Like the whole thing about society being organic, human institutions being natural and how tradition should be conserved?
