Republicans get increased support from non-whites in mid-term elections

National House exit polls (summarized by CNN here and here) complicate the Democratic narrative of the “emerging electorate” set against Republican appeal limited to old white men. There was a “gender gap,” but this time in Republicans’ favor: Democrats outpolled Republicans among women, 52% to 47%, but Republicans’ advantage among men was 56% to 42%. Republicans did better among voters over 45 and Democrats among those under 45, but Republicans still managed 43% of the under-30 vote.

Republicans attracted 10% of blacks, 35% of Latinos and 49% of Asian-Americans. The comparable figures in the 2012 presidential race, according to the New York Times, were 6%, 27% and 26%.

I’m pretty impressed that the Republicans only lost women by 5%, and I bet they won married women by a landslide, as usual. It’s nice to see that women were not unduly tricked by the “war on women” rhetoric.

Life News profiled some of the newly Republicans – all of them pro-life:

Not only did pro-life candidates win huge election victories across the board last night, but black pro-life candidates won as well and helped undermine false criticism from the other side that somehow the pro-life issue is not one that resonates with African-Americans.

In the deep South, South Carolina voters sent pro-life Republican Tim Scott back to the U.S. Senate, making him the first black candidate to win a statewide race there since just after the Civil War. Scott is also the first African-American senator from the South since Reconstruction.

Scott’s victory was so certain that his race was called moments after polls officially closed.

[…]Meanwhile, in Utah, Mia Love won her congressional race to become the first black Republican woman in Congress. Love is a proudly pro-life candidate who had strong support from pro-life groups.

[…]And in Texas, pro-life congressional candidate Will Hurd won his race, unseating Rep. Pete Gallego.

Hurd is a former undercover CIA operative. He specializes in cybersecurity and counterterrorism.

And if all that were not enough, an eighteen-year-old college student was elected to the West Virginia state legislature.

A West Virginia University freshman who did most of her campaigning out of her dorm room became the youngest state lawmaker in the nation Tuesday.

Republican Saira Blair, a fiscally conservative 18-year-old, will represent a small district in West Virginia’s eastern panhandle, about 1½ hours outside Washington, D.C., after defeating her Democratic opponent 63% to 30%, according to the Associated Press. A third candidate got 7% of the vote.

In a statement, Ms. Blair thanked her supporters and family, as well as her opponents for running a positive campaign. “History has been made tonight in West Virginia, and while I am proud of all that we have accomplished together, it is the future of this state that is now my singular focus,” she said.

Ms. Blair campaigned on a pledge to work to reduce certain taxes on businesses, and she also holds pro-life and pro-gun positions.

Wouldn’t it be great if conservative families were making a generation of young conservatives like her?

Only 18% of Americans think race relations have improved under President Obama

The IBD/TIPP poll was the most accurate in the 2012 presidential election, and now they found out something about race relations under President Obama.

Our latest poll suggests that far from healing America’s racial wounds, the first black president has reopened them. Obama the uniter is actually the great divider.

By an almost 3-1 margin, Americans say race relations have worsened under the man who was supposed to usher in a golden era of “post-racial” relations.

Six years after electing the nation’s first black president, a stunning 46% in the new IBD/TIPP Poll draw that conclusion compared to 18% who don’t. Nearly one in four believe race relations have gotten “much worse” under President Obama, while 35% say they’ve stayed the same.

The results corroborate a long-running poll on racial attitudes conducted by Hart Research Associates and Public Opinion Strategies since 1994. It records the steepest decline in positive views occurring over the last three years.

Who can blame Americans for thinking the nation is more divided along racial lines?

When our poll was taken in late October, respondents heard news that authorities in St. Louis are bracing for more senseless riots. Black street agitators bussed in from Chicago are spoiling for a race war, egged on by an attorney general who’s tried to convince African-Americans that white cops like Darren Wilson are gunning for them, despite forensic and other evidence refuting such garbage.

These polls also reflect campaign attack ads showing Obama-yoked Democrats resorting to shameless race-baiting in the final days of a congressional election that promises to repudiate them and their party leader.

People like me on the center right have been talking about policy failures, cover-ups and other mistakes for years since the Democrats took power, and yet the only response we ever get from Democrats is to be called “racists”. Very curious in my case, since I have darker skin than Obama, and no white parents. In fact, if I ever met the man, I’d be sure to reply to all his criticisms of my views by calling him a racist. I think that’s how Democrats talk.

Chicago pastor’s church is broken into by Democrats after he endorses Republican

Corey Brooks, a South Side pastor featured in an ad endorsing Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner, says he’s moved his family from his home while police investigate an overnight burglary of his church, as well as threatening derogatory phone calls he received which claim he’ll be beaten for being Rauner’s “puppet.”

On Saturday, Brooks rushed to the New Beginnings Church of Chicago after a maintenance employee found the church’s back doors shattered and an estimated $8,000 stolen from a glass charity box, meant to build a community center across from the church.

Nothing surprising about that. To be a Democrat is to take other people’s money. That’s their whole thing.

“The death threats seem to be related to Bruce Rauner,” Brooks said at the church Saturday. “They say his name as well as mine and most of the references were in response to me in support of him. So it’s really derogatory, real racial, a lot of homophobic words. It’s real life threatening.”

Brooks said he received the five phone calls on Friday. He recorded one of them, and provided it to police. In that call, which was played for the Sun-Times, a man’s voice is disguised via a high-pitched filter. He is heard calling Brooks a “token n—–.”

“We on you boy, we on you. And you ain’t got nobody that can stop us, nobody. Who you go [to] the deacons? They can’t stop us. We going to beat your fat a– in front of your mama congregation Sunday. Yeah we going to steal the sheep of the hypocrite. You’s a hypocrite we going to beat your fat a– in front of your own congregation. Who you got that…f— we going to beat their a– too. They can’t protect you. You sell out you Uncle Tom a– n—–. You token. You a puppet for Bruce Rauner you puppet n—– a–. P—- a– n—–,” the voice says on the recording.

Brooks said he believes his family is in danger, which prompted him to move to a temporary home until the threats are investigated.

“It was enough to want to move my family. Any time people threatening your life, and you know if it were just me, I maybe would just say whatever. But when you mention my family, you mention our church. Things like that, I have to take it seriously,” Brooks said.

As a non-white conservative, I have had reactions like this before. I remember being sneered at by liberal women in college, and I get dirty looks from them in the gym for watching Fox News, too. They ask me if I am pro-life and then turn up their noses at me when I tell them “yes”. It’s interesting being a colored conservative. People get so angry about it. The best way to defuse that, I’ve found is to just ask them questions, like who the Vice President is, or who the Speaker of the House is. Once you show them that you know more than they do, they leave you alone.
