Police arrested five anti-abortion activists Monday at Carleton University after the group attempted to display large posters that compared abortion to genocide.

Ruth Lobo, a fourth-year Carleton student, said she and four others were arrested by Ottawa police at around 9 a.m. Monday. Three were Carleton students and the fourth was from Queen’s University.

According to Lobo, the five students were handcuffed, loaded into a police van and taken to the campus security office where they were each charged with two offences under the Trespass Act and fined about $130 each.

The group had asked Carleton for a spot on campus to hold the controversial Genocide Awareness Project, which features six large graphic images that compare the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide to abortion.

The university said the display is considered disturbing and offensive to some and offered the group space in Porter Hall, which Lobo called, “an isolated hall that no one ever really goes to.”

Unsatisfied with the space offered by Carleton, Lobo said the group arrived on campus Monday at 9 a.m. to set up in the Tory Quad, an outside square at the centre of campus bordered by the library, administration building and several other buildings.

A university spokesman confirmed the arrests and noted the group were on several occasions offered another place on campus to set up their display.

“In every instance, the students indicated they would not respect the university’s request and would proceed with its exhibit in the Tory Quad,” said Jason McDonald in a written statement.

Lobo said the campus’ anti-abortion group Carleton Lifeline wanted to bring the Genocide Awareness Project to Ottawa to challenge students’ views on abortion in an educational way.

Similar protests have been held on other university campuses across the country, including the University of Calgary.

Four students were arrested this morning by Ottawa police for putting up a graphic anti-abortion display on the main quadrangle of Carleton University.

The students, all members of a pro-life group called Carleton Lifeline, applied for permission to put up the display two months ago but were turned down by the university.

The school said it did not allow large displays in the quadrangle and also cited the offensiveness of the photos.

The students were offered a room in which the photos of bloody fetuses could be shown and a table in the main university centre to invite fellow students to the display.

However, Ruth Lobo, one of the students arrested, said putting up the display was a matter of free speech and a personal obligation to “tell the truth about abortion.”

The four Carleton students have been charged with trespassing. A fifth man from Queen’s University was also charged.

Keep in mind that these students are registered for classes, so how can they be trespassing if they supposed to be there? And this censorship of their views is being done with the tax money paid into the university system by their parents. Their parents also pay for the left-wing student government and the left-wing clubs who are never arrested for taking stands on controversial issues. Can you imagine being a parent and being forced to pay people who arrest and censor your own children and lead them away in handcuffs just for exercising their right to free speech?

The problem here is that leftists believe that mere disagreement with their left-wing views is enough to incite violence against them, poor little victims as they are. Left-wingers, it is assumed, are not capable of violence, so left wing speech doesn’t have to be censored. That’s how leftists feel – if you disagree with them, you need to be arrested because you’re a crazy violent person. They call that tolerance and open-mindedness, by the way.

Keep in mind that we see a lot more left-wing violence, not the least of which is 45 million babies killed since abortion became legal in the USA. And that’s not even counting the MILLIONS of lives snuffed out by the DDT ban.

Although pro-life demonstrations are meant to attract attention and to encourage 1-on-1 debate, leftists actually advocate violence against those who disagree with them. On the other hand, abortionists seem to like to attack pro-lifers. Sometimes by shooting them, sometimes by hitting them with SUVs, and this week they are pulling guns on them.

Pro-lifers, just want to use visual aids to show what abortion is to get a conversation started. But left-wingers are a lot worse – they want to use videos to actually incite violence against people who disagree with them.

Oh, nothing unusual about blowing up people who don’t believe in global warming, right? Not at all – that’s tolerance and diversity to leftists. (I sent that video to a secular humanist and he thought it was funny to blow up people who doubt global warming. He laughed!)

And even worse than that, we actually DO have evidence that eco-fascist nuts watch propaganda videos like the one above and then start running around with guns trying to “save the planet” by committing crimes. But are environmentalists arrested for demonstrating on campus, and then put in jail? Of course not. Because they are LEFTISTS. Leftists advocate for big government, and big government means more money for universities. It’s all about the money.

Flags were at half-mast in Dearborn today when four out of five charges against the Dearborn Four were dropped. Defendants Qureshi, Wood, Rezkalla and Mayel were all found not guilty of their “Breach of Peace” charges, but defendant Mayel was found guilty of the charge “Willfully Disobeying the Lawful Order of a Police Officer.” She was sentenced to one day of jail, which had already been served in June. The credit was applied, and all four were free to go. The judge sent them on their way saying “You are welcome in Dearborn.” Clearly.

Even though the person who complained against Negeen, Roger Williams, was effectively shown to be a compulsive liar, and even though the police officer who arrested her admitted that she had done nothing illegal before he detained her for questioning, she was still found guilty. Is there no justice in Dearborn?

The trial process has been tasking in many ways. We’ve spent a week away from work, school, and our families. We’ve had a grueling week of preparing for court day after day, without break or diversion. And emotionally we are spent. But we’ve got so much to be thankful for.

To our friends who flew to Dearborn to testify on our behalf, especially those who waited for a week in the hotel only to be told by the court that their testimony would not be allowed: we cannot thank you enough for your show of support and willingness to sacrifice for us. We only hope we can express our sincere gratitude as wonderfully as you have expressed your love.

To those who supported us financially: we could not have done it without you! When we came to Dearborn a week ago, we had hoped to be done with the trial by Wednesday. By Thursday morning, the prosecution was still not done presenting its case, and so the defense still hadn’t started! Our expenditures skyrocketed because we had to unexpectedly extend our rental car, hotel rooms, and rearrange our flights. Your support has sustained us financially, and the love of Christ shines through your self-sacrificial attitudes. We cannot thank you enough!

Also, a million thanks go out to the Thomas More Law Center, without whom we would have been unable to defend ourselves from the persecution of the City of Dearborn. Robert Muise was not only our attorney and counsel, but he was fully invested in this issue with us, sharing our emotional burden and investing more time into the issue than even us. The way he approached the case, he might as well have been handcuffed and in jail with us 3 months ago. Truly our brother in Christ, we would have had to take pleas of guilty had it not been for him and his diligence.

This is why I tell young people to think ahead and build a savings account for situations like this. Everything costs money, and often your ability to take these bold stands are conditional on the size of your savings account. It reminds me of the Human Rights Commissions in Canada, and their war against free speech. They can put you on trial for several years and drain you of tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees if you fight them in court, like they did with pastor Stephen Boissoin. In a very real and practical way, your ability to be faithful under fire may rest on the degrees you have earned in school, and the money you earn and save while working.

An army marches on its stomach – and an army has to guard its supply lines. Similarly, Christians can only take bold stands on a full wallet. Nabeel, for example, is trained as a medical doctor. That is a field that would allow him to pay for loads of lawyers so he can get into as much legal trouble as he wants for speaking out about what he believes. If he chooses to continue his medical career, he would be well-supplied with funding, and able to mix it up with the other side. He would be able to back up his tough talk in the court room.

I am reminded of how the poor financial decisions made by the anti-intellectual fundamentalist Dan Barker cost him his faith. Do not test God by getting into more trouble than you can handle, and hoping that he will magically bail you out. Christianity is dangerous. People get hurt. Some even get killed. We are getting creamed in the courts, in the news and on campus every day. Do not waste your life having fun in your youth like the non-Christians do – prepare for your trials now. You cannot spend all your time dancing and singing and drinking and then still expect to be able to stand against powerful enemies who will have no mercy on you in the court room. Make wise choices. Learn everything you can. Work hard. Save your money.

Dearborn police publicizes Christian evangelist’s home address

When Dearborn gets angry at someone, they don’t mess around. Last year, Nabeel and I exposed the thug tactics of Arab Festival security. (They were using these tactics against many other Christians; we just caught their actions on tape.) What was the response this year? Festival volunteer Roger Williams lied about us. Police lied about us (see here, here, and here). Even the Mayor lied about us (see here, here, here, and here). They threw us in jail on false charges and launched a smear campaign against us.

But they were just getting warmed up. Through the Freedom of Information Act, anyone can request our police reports. Before releasing our reports, however, police are supposed to block out our personal information, such as home addresses. Not long ago, someone forwarded me the report being released by the Dearborn Police Department. Nabeel’s address, Negeen’s address, and Paul’s address had all been taken out. My full name and home address, however, were prominently displayed on page six of the report! This is disturbing, as I know that Muslims now have access to the report.

Why would police include my personal information in the report being sent to the public? If you recall, I’m the one who made a video publicly rebuking Police Chief Haddad. Is this deliberate retaliation from Dearborn Police, or a mere oversight? Either way, police have endangered my family. I fully accept that I’m in a risky ministry, and that Muslims may kill me one day. But I try to make sure my family is safe, and Dearborn just drew a map for Muslims who want to invade my home.

So the Chief of Police is basically deliberately endangering the lives of David Wood and his entire family by exposing them to reprisals from violent Muslims. I’m sure the media will be all over this story, too.
