Tennessee’s SCOTUS win halts harmful transgender procedures for kids

I’ve blogged before about Tennessee’s badass Attorney General, Jonathan Skrmetti. He defends the laws of the state of Tennessee from radical leftists. Tennessee’s SB1 stopped doctors from giving kids puberty blockers, hormones and surgeries. The ACLU sued, but SCOTUS crushed them in United States v. Skrmetti. This post is a great tool to show the difference between the two parties, so please share.

First, let’s see what was going on in Tennessee:

The governor of Tennessee is calling for an investigation into Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Pediatric Transgender Clinic following viral tweets exposing alarming attitudes toward transgender surgeries and procedures for children.

Daily Wire host Matt Walsh shared Tuesday afternoon that his team has been investigating the transgender clinic, claiming that “Vanderbilt drugs, chemically castrates, and performs double mastectomies on minors.”

In one video posted by Walsh, which has since gone viral, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Clinic for Transgender Health physician Dr. Shayne Taylor describes how she persuaded the hospital to “get into the gender-transition game,” as Walsh said. The doctor emphasizes that gender transition is a “big moneymaker.”

“The female-to-male bottom surgeries, these are huge moneymakers,” Taylor says in the video.

“They make money,” she adds of the transgender surgeries. “They make money for the hospital.”

So, the people in Tennessee are pretty conservative, and they are careful about who they elect. After all, Tennessee is home to big social conservative leaders like Matt Walsh and Robby Starbuck. So, voters in Tennessee elect real conservatives. In this case, House Majority Leader William Lamberth and Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson authored a piece of legislation designed to stop health care providers from giving transgender drugs and surgeries to kids. That bill was called SB-1 and it took effect in September 2023.

Unfortunately, the American Civil Liberties Union, a far-left organization, sued the state of Tennessee, believing that they knew better than the voters of Tennessee. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, and on Wednesday, we got the decision.

The Federalist explains:

In a 6-3 ruling, SCOTUS deemed a Tennessee law prohibiting the surgical and chemical castration of minors does not violate the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause.

All 6 Republican appointees voted in favor of Tennessee, and all 3 Democrat appointees voted against Tennessee.

My favorite Justice is Clarence Thomas. If you ask any Republican voter what they would think about 9 clones of Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court, they would kiss you on both cheeks and say “from your lips to God’s ears”.

Thomas had a separate concurrence, aimed specifically at the “healthcare experts” who like to push their leftist views onto the public under the cloak of science.

The article quote Thomas’ concurring statement:

“First, so-called experts have no license to countermand the ‘wisdom, fairness, or logic of legislative choices.’ … Second, contrary to the representations of the United States and the private plaintiffs, there is no medical consensus on how best to treat gender dysphoria in children,” Thomas wrote. “Third, notwithstanding the alleged experts’ view that young children can provide informed consent to irreversible sex-transition treatments, whether such consent is possible is a question of medical ethics that States must decide for themselves. Fourth, there are particularly good reasons to question the expert class here, as recent revelations suggest that leading voices in this area have relied on questionable evidence, and have allowed ideology to influence their medical guidance.”

“Taken together,” the senior justice wrote, “this case serves as a useful reminder that the American people and their representatives are entitled to disagree with those who hold themselves out as experts, and that courts may not ‘sit as a super-legislature to weigh the wisdom of legislation.’”

[…]“Thus, whether ‘major medical organizations’ agree with the result of Tennessee’s democratic process is irrelevant.”

Even moderate Justice John Roberts decided not to side with the leftists this time.

Daily Signal reports:

In fact, Roberts pointed out, several European countries that jumped on the “gender-affirming” care bandwagon have reversed course, “rais[ing] significant concerns regarding the potential harms associated with using puberty blockers and hormones to treat transgender minors.”

So, given all this, I want to make a point about a friend of mine who is a church-attending Christian, but no interested in politics. Let’s call him “Libby”, because he is a libertarian.

Libby loves to share memes on his meme page. He likes to read fiction. He watches TV comedies. He knows all the latest movies. Whenever the topic of politics comes up, Libby is sure that it’s pointless to discuss politics because “both political parties are the same”. He also thinks “it doesn’t matter what state you live in, they’re all the same”. He also thinks that all countries are the same “Canada is just like the United States except colder”.

Whenever I send Libby articles to convince him about something related to politics or policy, he always replies with “too many words”.

Then he sends me a meme of Duke Nukem:

Then he reacts to my post with the yawn reaction, the Zzzzz reaction, and the bed reaction:

Personally, I think this is a more appropriate Duke Nukem meme for Libby:

So today, Libby is out there sharing memes about Batman and Disney, but he didn’t mention anything about the big win for conservatives at SCOTUS. So I asked him, is this SCOTUS decision a good thing? And surprisingly, Libby agreed that not transing the kids WAS a good thing. So I asked him, are you going to share this good news with anyone? And he replied, no he wasn’t. You see, Libby shares memes, and he doesn’t want to lose any of his fans by sharing anything that would rock the boat.

So, don’t be a Libby. The 2026 election cycle has already started. Now is the time to be sharing stories that show what Republicans do when they have power. The transgender issue is a winning issue with independents. It doesn’t help us win elections to ignore all the good news on these issues while it’s happening. Now is the time to convince independent voters that Republicans are VERY different than Democrats, and VERY different than Democrats for Christians in particular. Show people that you know why you vote for the Republican party. It’s not just how you were raised. And it’s not just your favorite football team. You have policy reasons.

So, share this blog post, or share the articles that I linked. Don’t be a Libby. Now is the time to explain to people why they should vote Republican.

Frank Turek lectures on the case against same-sex marriage

About the speaker Frank Turek:

Dr. Frank Turek is the author or coauthor of five books, including I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist and Stealing from God:  Why Atheists Need God to make their Case. As the President of CrossExamined.org, Frank presents evidence for Christianity at churches, high schools, and secular college campuses. He has also debated several prominent atheists including Christopher Hitchens and Michael Shermer, Founding Publisher of Skeptic Magazine. Frank hosts an hour-long TV program each week called I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist which is broadcast Wednesday nights on DirecTV Channel 378 (NRBTV). His radio program and podcast called I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist with Frank Turek airs on 182 stations every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. eastern and is available continuously on the free CrossExamined App.

Frank Turek is one of my favorite speakers, and I admire him for being willing to take a public stand on controversial issues like gay marriage. He’s actually had to pay a price for that in his professional life, and I blogged about that before.

Here’s the lecture on gay marriage, featuring Christian apologist Frank Turek.

Outline:

Outline of Frank Turek's lecture on same sex marriage
Outline of Frank Turek’s lecture on same sex marriage

Introduction:

  • how to present your case against marriage safely
  • Christians are required to go beyond tolerance
  • loving another person can mean opposing the person when they want to do something wrong, even if they hate you
  • what did Jesus say about marriage? (see Matt 19:4-6)
  • what did Jesus say about sexual morality? (Matt 15, Matt 19)

Summary:

  • the same-sex marriage debate is about whether to compel people who disagree with the gay lifestyle to validate and normalize it
  • P1: the government has an interest in marriage because it perpetuates and stabilizes society – this is the purpose of marriage
  • P2-4: government can take 3 kinds of stances towards behaviors: promote, permit or prohibit
  • government promotes behaviors when it has an interest in them
  • same-sex relationships should be permitted, but not promoted
  • Q1: if same-sex marriage had serious negative consequences, would you reconsider their position?
  • Q2: are heterosexual relationships the same as homosexual relationships?
  • Q3: what would society be like if everyone married according to the natural marriage definition: one woman, one man, for life?
  • Q4: what would society be like if everyone married according to the same-sex marriage definition: man/man and woman/woman?
  • Should Christians care about law and politics? or should they just preach the gospel?
  • They should care because people often get their cues about what is moral and immoral based on what is legal and illegal
  • Many of the social problems we see today can be traced back to problems with marriage and family
  • Children do much better when they have a relationship with their mother and their father
  • Same-sex marriage necessarily destroys the relationship between a child and its mother or its father
  • When a country embraces same-sex marriage, it reinforces the idea that marriage is not about making and raising children
  • same-sex marriage shifts the focus away from the needs of the children to the feelings of desires of the selfish adults
  • does homosexuality impose any health and mental health risks?
  • what has the impact of legalizing same-sex marriage been in Massachusetts to individuals, schools, businesses and charities?
  • how same-sex marriage poses a threat to religious liberty
  • how should you respond to the view that homosexuality is genetic?

And at the very end, he shows this short video, which is only 5 minutes and explains the logic of opposing the redefinition of marriage:

My biggest concern is religious liberty, and we are seeing how same-sex marriage has proven to be incompatible with religious liberty. But I also care about children… I want them to have mothers and fathers who put their needs first. Marriage is about a commitment – it is the subjugation of feelings and desires to responsibilities and obligations. It is a promise. A promise to commit to love your spouse and children regardless of feelings and desires. It requires more self-denial, self-control and self-sacrifice. Not less.

The Biden-Harris regime engaged with left-wing activist group

How many concerning actions by the Biden-Harris regime can you remember? There was the labeling of parents and traditional Catholics as “domestic terrorists”, pre-dawn raids on pro-lifers, weak prosecution of church burnings and attacks on pro-life centers, delayed the release of the Nashville shooter’s manifesto, and ignoring the persecution of Christians abroad.

And now we are finally finding out to what extent they were weaponizing government to persecute their political (and religious!) rivals.

Here’s the latest news from Daily Signal:

A left-wing activist group known for putting its political opponents on a “hate map” with chapters of the Ku Klux Klan advised Justice Department prosecutors at a “hate crimes1 symposium,” newly unveiled documents show.

America First Legal obtained the documents via a Freedom of Information Act request and provided them first to The Daily Signal.

“All Americans should be shocked, appalled, and terrified that the Biden Justice Department was taking advice from a hate-filled, morally bankrupt organization like the Southern Poverty Law Center,” Ian Prior, senior counselor at America First Legal, told The Daily Signal in a statement Monday. “The SPLC’s agenda is anti-American to its core, and we must ensure that the SPLC never regains the power that it was so wrongly granted by the woke bureaucrats who ran this country until this past January.”

You might remember my blog post of a few days ago about how the SPLC labeled FOCUS ON THE FAMILY as a “hate group”. That’s not the only Christian group they’ve done that with, either. The Family Research Council was also on the SPLC hate map. The Family Research Council headquarters building was attacked by a gay activist in 2012, and the shooter cited SPLC’s hate map as inspiration, per The Daily Caller. The Alliance Defending Freedom, a presitigous religious liberty law firm, even says “The Southern Poverty Law Center’s labels have led to violence”. By the way, the SPLC labels groups like the Alliance Defending Freedom and Moms for Liberty as “extremist” or “hate” groups.

And this SPLC – DOJ symposium was not a one off:

The Justice Department repeatedly engaged with the SPLC during the Biden administration. DOJ staff seemed receptive to meeting with the SPLC shortly after the group put the parental rights group Moms for Liberty on the “hate map” in 2023. Clarke appears to have met with the SPLC in March 2023.

The FBI’s Richmond office cited the SPLC in its since-rescinded memo on “radical traditional Catholics.”

The Daily Signal also talked about Kristen Clarke, who I’ve blogged about before. Fortunately for Christians, Trump appointed someone much better than her when he took office. (Clarke admitted to not disclosing an 2006 arrest for domestic violence, as reported by NY Post).

Harmeet was talked about in the Daily Signal recently:

Harmeet Dhillon, who was selected by Trump in December to lead the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, has been nearly the opposite of her Biden administration predecessor.

Former Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke, who led the civil rights office before Dhillon, was one of the most aggressive in weaponizing the DOJ against political opponents, especially pro-lifers.

Dhillon achieved some notoriety before being appointed to office. Her California law office took up a few high-profile cases in the last decade, including that of James Damore, the Google employee who said he was fired because he criticized the company’s diversity policies.

“While the Civil Rights Division prosecuted pro-lifers, Dhillon has represented pro-life journalist David Daleiden, who exposed Planned Parenthood staff who sold aborted-baby body parts,” my colleague Tyler O’Neil wrote in December.

Dhillon has not only stopped the persecution of pro-life activists but has initiated DOJ investigations into states that have endangered women while violating civil rights law, like California.

She announced in May that her department was investigating whether California is violating Title IX by allowing males to compete in women’s sports.

“Title IX exists to protect women and girls in education. It is perverse to allow males to compete against girls, invade their private spaces, and take their trophies,” Dhillon said in May. “This Division will aggressively defend women’s hard-fought rights to equal educational opportunities.”

She’s doing a great job. Conservatives should keep an eye on her, she would make a nice Attorney General in the next Republican administration. That’s who I would pick. I like her far more than Pam Bondi, the current Attorney General. She has more fighting spirit.

One thing for sure, it really shows the importance of Christians voting. And not just voting, but advocating for conservative policies with independent voters during the election campaign period.
