What does Barack Obama really think about the definition of marriage?

Here is Obama talking about his view of marriage in front of Christians:

And here he is in front of his real constituents, the gay rights lobby:

In the video, he says that his administration is trying to dismantle the Defense of Marriage Act.

What is the Defense of Marriage Act, you ask?

Excerpt:

The Defense of Marriage Act defines marriage in federal law as follows:

In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word “marriage” means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word “spouse” refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.

The Defense of Marriage Act also affirms the power of each state to make its own decision as to whether it will accept or reject same-sex marriages created in other jurisdictions. It was enacted pursuant to the power granted to Congress in the second sentence of Article IV, Section 1. The Full Faith and Credit Statute was amended to include this provision:

No State, territory, or possession of the United States, or Indian tribe, shall be required to give effect to any public act, record, or judicial proceeding of any other State, territory, possession, or tribe respecting a relationship between persons of the same sex that is treated as a marriage under the laws of such other State, territory, possession, or tribe, or a right or claim arising from such relationship.

So what does Obama really support? Does he support DOMA? Or is he trying to repeal DOMA?

Obama is actually trying to REPEAL DOMA. He doesn’t believe that the word “marriage” means a union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. He doesn’t believe that the word “spouse” refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife. He just says that to get votes. He actually believes the opposite. And when he gets into office, he acts on what he really believes.

Do you like religious liberty? Obama’s ENDA bill, which he mentioned in the video, will put an end to your religious liberty. Even more than his “hate crimes” bill already did. And he’s the most pro-abortion President, too. If you care about foreign policy, he’s the worst President ever on foreign policy. If you care about fiscal policy, he’s the worst President ever on fiscal policy. He’s the worst President ever, no matter what you care about.

Oh wait… he’s good at playing golf. So there’s that.

  1. How do you know he’s good at playing golf? Have you seen his score cards? He sucks at everything else, I bet he sucks at golf too.

He’s a lying, spineless, relativistic strutting twerp, and the end of his term can’t come soon enough.

    1. In this case, regulation is necessary to protect the rights of innocent children who are being used as chattel by selfish adults.

MCS, am I correct in thinking you don’t think that children need a mother and a father who are biologically related to them? If you support SSM and IVF and welfare subsidies for single motherhood, then you are basically saying that the needs of adults trump the needs of children. And presumably you would also think that unborn babies do not have a right to life, because the needs of adults to be unencumbered by the results of their own actions is more important than an innocent person’s life.

I want every child to have a normal, happy childhood. I am pro-family and pro-marriage. I want to empower married couples to do the right thing with their children.

    1. Thanks Mike. I think that many politicians ON BOTH SIDES lie in their campaign speeches, although there are some exceptions. The only hope you have of knowing what they would actually do is to look at the legislation they actually introduce and their voting record. It’s amazing to me that so many people are now turning against Obama for pursuing the exact policies he pursued before he became president. The guy voting against the Born Alive Infants Act for crying out loud. If a baby is delivered alive during an abortion, he voted multiple times that it should be left to die. And lots of pro-life Christians voted for him.

      1. Great response WK, I’m glad you recognise it on both sides, the bush tax thing is but one example. But this Obama example seems to be far worse than most for some reason.
I knew about the abortion thing though, and I would never have voted for him simply on that basis (even though i’m neither 18 nor american lol).

  2. Watching this again, I actually think I might have been wrong. I don’t think Obama does contradict himself here.
He explicitly said in the first video that he would not approve a constitutional amendment to solidify the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman, instead each state should decide. So he is against federal legislation on the definition of marriage, which is precisely what DORA is.

He just personally believes that that is the definition of marriage. So if he had to vote on it as part of the state referendum, he would give homosexuals and lesbians civil unions but not marriage because he sees that as sacred.
And so in the second video he said he would repeal DORA, which fits into what he said in the first video, but of course he DIDN’T say that he thought marriage was between a man and a woman and not for homosexual partners.

So even though we may argue that he is wrong to repeal DORA, can we really say that he has contradicted himself here? I’m not so sure anymore.

  3. I have to agree with Michael. He is not really lying, he has a very diplomatic position and knows what parts of it to reveal to what groups. This is nothing new for politicians of any ideology.
