Democrats introduce amendment to allow taxpayer funding for abortions

Story from the Weekly Standard. (H/T Secondhand Smoke via ECM)

Excerpt:

Instead of the Stupak-Pitts amendment [preventing abortion funding in public option], the committee passed an amendment that is being billed by some Democrats as a “common ground” measure on abortion. The amendment–sponsored by Lois Capps (D-Calif.), whose National Right to Life Committee vote-scorecard is 0 for 74–would allow the “public option” to provide coverage for elective abortions and would allow federally subsidized private plans to provide abortion coverage as well. How exactly could this be construed as “common ground”? Congress isn’t requiring the public option to cover abortion–merely allowing it. And through some nifty bookkeeping, abortions will supposedly be paid for out of private funds rather than tax dollars…

Because money is fungible, it’s difficult to say that tax dollars wouldn’t fund abortions through this plan. Douglas Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee says, “Federal subsidies would also flow to private plans that cover elective abortions, under meaningless bookkeeping schemes — and the amendment actually creates a federal mandate that there must be at least one private abortion plan in each premium rating areas of the health insurance exchange.”

Wesley J. Smith writes:

A health unwanted pregnancy is not an illness. When a woman decides to terminate that pregnancy,  it should be her (and/or the father’s) responsibility, just like elective cosmetic surgery. This turn of events also illustrates how health care reform isn’t just about expanding medical coverage–but about impacting the culture.

When the government provides subsidies for a behavior, the frequency will increase, because the cost is lowered. Therefore, the Democrats are PRO-ABORTION. They want more abortions. They are in favor of killing innocent people. They are in favor of allowing people to kill unborn babies just because they are female (sex-selection abortions). They don’t care about the consciences of pro-life taxpayers – we have to support this, too.

Previously, I explained how Obama is the most pro-abortion President ever.

How Obama rewards his most prolific fundraisers with crony appointments

Story from the Washington Times. (H/T Verum Serum)

Morgen at Verum Serum writes:

These top fundraisers are known as “bundlers”. Since campaign finance laws restrict any one individual from donating more than $2400 to a single candidate, these bundlers achieve prominence within a campaign by soliciting for and then – you guessed it – bundling up individual donations received via their extended network of friends, family, business contacts, etc. While exact figures are not available, the top bundlers within the Obama campaign each delivered in excess of $1 million in campaign contributions, and there were nearly 50 bundlers who were responsible for at least $500K in donations.

As the Times notes, it’s somewhat of a Washington tradition for an incoming President to appoint choice ambassadorships to key political donors and allies. While this may be the case, for a President who declared a “new era” of accountability, and who championed ethics reform while in the Senate, a look at the appointments made to date reveals what I think is a surprising level of cronyism on the part of this Administration. And notably, many of these appointments extend outside the relatively ceremonial realm of diplomatic posts.

What sort of positions are they talking about? Just harmless ambassadorships?

Special Counsel to the President
Chairman, FCC
General Counsel, Dept. of Energy
Deputy Asst. Attorney General
Associate Attorney General
Under-Secy. for International Trade
Chairman, Corp. for Nat’l & Community Service
Asst. Attorney General, Civil Div.

By my calculation, nearly half of the top level of Obama campaign bundlers have been rewarded with some sort of role within the government.

And it gets worse:

Robert Wolf is the Chairman/CEO of investment bank UBS and given his influence on Wall Street may in fact be the largest bundler of them all. Significantly, Wolf’s firm seems to be mired in several tax-related scandals; and they were also a key counter-party recipient of  funds from AIG, courtesy of the U.S. tax payer. However, apparently all this was not enough to deter the President from naming Wolf to his Economic Advisory Council.

Verum Serum has the full list of donors, the total funds raised by each one, and the appointments.

What do you expect from the affirmative action President, whose private-school education was paid for by his rich grandmother?

Friday night funny: Nancy Pelosi, Michele Bachmann and capitalism

Here’s Canadian-raised comedian Steven Crowder’s latest video. This one made me laugh out loud, and you will too! (H/T IMAO.us)

And here’s the lovely Michele Bachmann staying calm against Barney Frank. Beauty and the Beast! (H/T The Maritime Sentry)

Remember, Democrats caused the recession and Republicans tried to stop it! And Barney Frank was one of the main players in causing this recession, as you can see from the linked New York Times article. Now Michele has to come in and try to clean up their mess.

Fun cartoons

Here is an old-fashioned video on capitalism. I feel so subversive even showing them to you. This is the kind of thing real Americans used to learn about before the public schools were taken over by marxists, feminists and draft-dodging leftists! (H/T IMAO.us)

Part 2:

More old-fashioned capitalist propaganda here! This one is about energy production, enterprise and competition. It has little green men with pointy ears!

Happy Friday!
