How the WMAP satellite confirmed nucleosynthesis predictions and falsified atheism

Prior to certain scientific discoveries, most people thought that the universe had always been here, and no need to ask who or what may have caused it. But today, that’s all changed. Today, the standard model of the origin of the universe is that all the matter and energy in the universe came into being in an event scientists call “The Big Bang”. At the creation event, space and time themselves began to exist, and there is no material reality that preceded them.

So a couple of quotes to show that.

An initial cosmological singularity… forms a past temporal extremity to the universe. We cannot continue physical reasoning, or even the concept of spacetime, through such an extremity… On this view the big bang represents the creation event; the creation not only of all the matter and energy in the universe, but also of spacetime itself.

And another quote:

[A]lmost everyone now believes that the universe, and time itself, had a beginning at the big bang.

So, there are several scientific discoveries that led scientists to accept the creation event, and one of the most interesting and famous is the discovery of how elements heavier than hydrogen were formed.

Nucleosynthesis: forming heavier elements by fusion
Nucleosynthesis: forming heavier elements by fusion

Here’s the history of how that discovery happened, from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) web site:

The term nucleosynthesis refers to the formation of heavier elements, atomic nuclei with many protons and neutrons, from the fusion of lighter elements. The Big Bang theory predicts that the early universe was a very hot place. One second after the Big Bang, the temperature of the universe was roughly 10 billion degrees and was filled with a sea of neutrons, protons, electrons, anti-electrons (positrons), photons and neutrinos. As the universe cooled, the neutrons either decayed into protons and electrons or combined with protons to make deuterium (an isotope of hydrogen). During the first three minutes of the universe, most of the deuterium combined to make helium. Trace amounts of lithium were also produced at this time. This process of light element formation in the early universe is called “Big Bang nucleosynthesis” (BBN).

The creation hypothesis predicts that there will be specific amounts of these light elements formed as the universe cools down. Do the predictions match with observations?

Yes they do:

The predicted abundance of deuterium, helium and lithium depends on the density of ordinary matter in the early universe, as shown in the figure at left. These results indicate that the yield of helium is relatively insensitive to the abundance of ordinary matter, above a certain threshold. We generically expect about 24% of the ordinary matter in the universe to be helium produced in the Big Bang. This is in very good agreement with observations and is another major triumph for the Big Bang theory.

Moreover, WMAP satellite measurements of mass density agree with our observations of these light element abundances.

Here are the observations from the WMAP satellite:

Scientific observations match predictions
Scientific observations match predictions

And here is how those WMAP measurements confirm the Big Bang creation event:

However, the Big Bang model can be tested further. Given a precise measurement of the abundance of ordinary matter, the predicted abundances of the other light elements becomes highly constrained. The WMAP satellite is able to directly measure the ordinary matter density and finds a value of 4.6% (±0.2%), indicated by the vertical red line in the graph. This leads to predicted abundances shown by the circles in the graph, which are in good agreement with observed abundances. This is an important and detailed test of nucleosynthesis and is further evidence in support of the Big Bang theory.

“An important and detailed test”.

For completeness, we should learn how elements heavier than these light elements are formed:

Elements heavier than lithium are all synthesized in stars. During the late stages of stellar evolution, massive stars burn helium to carbon, oxygen, silicon, sulfur, and iron. Elements heavier than iron are produced in two ways: in the outer envelopes of super-giant stars and in the explosion of a supernovae. All carbon-based life on Earth is literally composed of stardust.

That’s a wonderful thing to tell a young lady when you are on a date: “your body is made of stardust”. In fact, as I have argued before, this star formation, which creates the elements necessary for intelligent life, can only be built if the fundamental constants and quantities in the universe are finely-tuned.

Now, you would think that atheists would be happy to find observations that confirm the origin of the universe out of nothing, but they are not. Actually, they are in denial.

Here’s a statement from the Secular Humanist Manifesto, which explains what atheists believe about the universe:

Religious humanists regard the universe as self-existing and not created.

For a couple of examples of how atheistic scientists respond to the evidence for a cosmic beginning, you can check out this post, where we get responses from cosmologist Lawrence Krauss, and physical chemist Peter Atkins.

You cannot have the creation of the universe be true AND a self-existing, eternal universe ALSO be true. Someone has to be wrong. Either the science is wrong, or the atheist manifesto is wrong. I know where I stand.

Mom explains how she pulled her daughter out of transgender spiral

I found a really interesting article in The Daily Signal, in which a mother explains how her daughter got into transgenderism, and how the mother got her out. When I read the story, I thought about how most mothers would not have the strength to do it. Most mothers tend to want their children to lead them, so the mothers will be liked This mom thought her daughter was wrong and fought her.

In the first part of the article, she talks about how her daughter got into the transgender lifestyle. The mom was very permissive and supportive, letting her daughter get exposed to all sorts of predators. Only later, when going through her daughter’s phone, did she realize her mistake:

I managed to get all of her passwords to all of her social media accounts. What I saw was jaw-dropping.

Almost everyone that she was conversing with was a stranger, except for the SacAnime friend, who sent her a self-made masturbation video. The discussions on the Discord platform online involved fetishistic sexual conversations. Kids were sending each other erotica, including involving incest and pedophilia.

Older girls were instructing younger girls how to sell nude photos of themselves to men for money.

Girls bragged about their different mental illnesses. They talked about which drugs do what. They talked about how they are really boys, not girls. They discussed “top surgery” (that is, having their breasts removed) and “packers” that create a bulge in one’s pants to imply the presence of a penis.

My daughter’s electronic devices were filled with TikTok videos and YouTubers talking about how great they feel now that they had “transitioned.”

There were messages in which strangers told her to kick my head in because I was a “transphobe” for refusing to call her a male name.

What I liked was the mother’s response. I am really surprised to see this, knowing what I know about how badly mothers want to not judge, and be liked by their children.

I went nuclear. I took the phone and stripped it of all social media—YouTube, Instagram, Discord, Reddit, Pinterest, Twitter. I even blocked her ability to get to the internet. I deleted all of her contacts and changed her phone number.

I sat next to her while she “attended” school online via Zoom. I deleted YouTube from the smart TVs and locked up the remotes. I took every anime book from her room. I threw away all of her costumes. I banned any friend who was even the slightest bit unsavory.

I involved the police about the porn. I printed out the law and informed her that if anyone sent her porn, I would not hesitate to prosecute.

She hated me like an addict hates the person preventing her drug fix. I held my ground, despite the constant verbal abuse.

After going through seven mental health professionals, I found an out-of-state psychiatrist who was willing to examine the causality for my daughter’s sudden trans identity.

I immersed myself in reading everything on the issue, talking to other parents and other professionals. I worked unceasingly to re-create the bond she and I used to share.

After a year and half of utter hell, my daughter is finally returning to her authentic self—a beautiful, artsy, kind and loving daughter.

I am not sure what the actual ingredients for the magic potion were for alleviating gender dysphoria in my daughter. The formula will vary, but what I did was, after a very brief misstep of using a male name, our family and all of the adults in my child’s life only used her birth name and corresponding pronouns.

We did not permit social transition, although we could not control the school setting. Unbelievably, our local Catholic high school refused to follow our edict.

She links to some helpful books that you should know about it you are facing the same problems with your children.

If there’s one lesson to take from this, it’s that parents should know that letting children be influenced by their peers is a recipe for disaster.

I blogged before about a Brown University study showing how transgenderism often happens quickly, as a result of peer pressure or social media pressure.

This month, a Brown University researcher published the first study to empirically describe teens and young adults who did not have symptoms of gender dysphoria during childhood but who were observed by their parents to rapidly develop gender dysphoria symptoms over days, weeks or months during or after puberty.

[…]The study was published on Aug. 16 in PLOS ONE.

The schools, counselors and hospitals are often against the parents. This story from Canada is typical of how schools handle parents who disagree with transgender grooming. Teachers see their primary goal as grooming children to fulfill the desires of sexual predators – they call this “compassion”. Once you realize that they think sexualizing your child is their goal, you’ll know how to respond to them. They are moral relativists. They don’t know right from wrong. They only believe in “compassion” – giving predators your children, in order to be liked by the predators.

Diversity and inclusion: secular leftist UK police decline to prosecute Muslim sex-traffickers

If you listened to the recent episode of the Knight and Rose Show about “Women and Islam“, then you heard us talk about the epidemic of sex-trafficking in the UK. In the show notes, I talked about some of the cities where this happens. The UK elected the secular leftist Labour Party, who imported unskilled young men from Middle East countries like Pakistan. What could go wrong?

Here is a recent story from the UK Times. (archive)

It says:

More than a thousand children were sexually exploited over at least 30 years in Telford amid “shocking” police and council failings, an inquiry has found.

Unnecessary suffering and child deaths might have been avoided had West Mercia police “done its most basic job”, according to findings published yesterday.

The inquiry found that child sexual exploitation “thrived” for decades in the Shropshire town, in part because of fears that investigations into Asian men would “inflame racial tensions”.

Children were brainwashed for years by men who bought them alcohol and cigarettes in what was described as a “loverboy” method to exploit them.

Tom Crowther QC, the inquiry chairman, said: “The overwhelming theme of the evidence has been the appalling suffering of generations of children caused by the utter cruelty of those who committed child sexual exploitation. Victims and survivors repeatedly told the inquiry how, when they were children, adult men worked to gain their trust before ruthlessly betraying that trust, treating them as sexual objects or commodities.

“Countless children were sexually assaulted and raped. They were deliberately humiliated and degraded. They were shared and trafficked. They were subjected to violence and their families were threatened. They lived in fear and their lives were for ever changed.”

The three-year investigation by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) found that more than a thousand Telford children were exploited “over decades”.

Witness evidence suggested that West Mercia police “dropped the case like a hot potato” if complaints were made against Asian families, because investigating them would have been “too politically incorrect”.

[…]Crowther said that one of the most shocking pieces of evidence he had read related to “what was described as a ‘rape house’, which it became clear had been operating for years”.

Girls were subjected in several cases to death threats against themselves or their families if they tried to put a stop to abuse, the inquiry was told.

The report said: “In some cases, threats were reinforced by reference to the murder of Lucy Lowe, who died alongside her mother, sister and unborn child in August 2000.”

In 2001, Azhar Ali Mehmood, a taxi driver, was handed four life sentences when he was jailed for the murders of Lucy Lowe, 16, Sarah Lowe, 17, and 49-year-old Eileen Linda Lowe.

Exploitation was “not investigated because of nervousness about race” and information was not properly shared among agencies, the inquiry found. Teachers and youth workers were “discouraged from reporting child sexual exploitation” and offenders were “emboldened”. Police and the council scaled down teams to “to save money”.

This isn’t the first time I blogged about grooming and sex-trafficking by men of Middle Eastern descent:

As the chart below shows, Christianity is dead in the UK. It’s been replaced by secular leftism. And, as documented in Douglas Murray’s “The Strange Death of Europe”, it was the secular left that opened the borders to the Middle East. They did it in the name of diversity and inclusion. The secular left wanted to destroy Christianity and conservatism, so they imported people who denied Christianity and opposed conservative beliefs.

As we noted in our podcast on the rationality of moral behavior, secular leftists understand morality to be about feeling good, and  looking good to others. Their worldview tells them that the universe is an accident, and that human beings are machines made out of meat. To them, human rights is nonsense, and free will is nonsense on stilts. There is no standard of morality that governs their conduct. They are just adopting whatever rules are in effect in their tribe.

UK Religion Christianity Decline

The secular leftists in the UK enacted secular leftist policies – open borders, multiculturalism, diversity, inclusion. And when those policies produced the results you see, their response is to ignore the victims and cover it all up. They have speech codes that make it impossible to criticize the effects of their policies. They arrest people for talking about the crimes. They don’t arrest the people who commit the crimes. That is the “morality” that works best for them, their careers, their happiness, their popularity in their tribe.

Scotland Police has time for monitoring social media
Scotland Police has time for monitoring social media

Whenever I bring up the problems with morality for the secular left, they tell me what great objective morality they have. “We believe that rape is wrong” they say. “We believe that slavery is wrong” they say. Those are the words. But what are the actions? What are the results of the actions? It wasn’t William Lane Craig and Stephen C. Meyer making laws and culture in the UK for the last 30 years. It was the secular left. The Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats have been running things for decades. And the Conservative Party, if they ever win, doesn’t push Christian moral values. That’s dead.

Police resources are used to monitor social media in the UK

Don’t listen to the words of secular leftists. The words are designed to paint a picture that makes them socially acceptable. Look at the consequences of their actions, especially for unborn children and fatherless girls. You cannot get a functioning moral system from an accidental universe and “survival of the fittest”. If you’re looking for a rational basis for self-sacrificial love for the weak, then you’re looking for Christianity. We do that. And there’s a price to pay for attacking Christian values and beliefs. When we go underground, the weak in society suffer. Our moral values block the strong from harming the weak.
