CDC: Gay population is 2.3%, but young Americans believe it’s 30%

Newsbusters reports.

Excerpt:

A new comprehensive study by the CDC with over 33,000 participants has confirmed earlier estimates; less than 3 percent of the U.S. population self-identifies as gay, lesbian or bisexual. Earlier, much smaller-scale surveys have put that number at 4 percent.

The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), published July 15 by the CDC, was the first large-scale study of it’s kind. Data was collected from the Census Bureau, as The Washington Post reported, and 33,557 adults between the ages of 18 and 64 participated in the study, which included in-person interviews as well as follow-up phone questions.

The NHIS study found that, while 96.6 percent of adults identified as “straight”, 1.6 percent identified as gay or lesbian, and 0.7 percent called themselves bisexual. 1.1 percent responded “I don’t know” or said they were “something else” not listed.

That sure doesn’t sound like society according to Hollywood, or the news media, which have young Americans convinced 30 percent of the population is gay.

This is why it’s important to be skeptical of the liberal media and Hollywood. So many false ideas floating around in the popular culture, and yet most Americans think they are very well informed. Especially the young ones. They may not have skills, but they have great confidence. The public schools taught them self-esteem, if nothing else.

  1. Reblogged this on Right Wing Nuts and Bolts and commented:
Because half of the loud and proud uber-minority of gay people work in and around the media, and their straight colleagues don’t wish to jeopardize their jobs saying somethiing not PC, we are forced to live with a lot of lies, half-truths and statistics without any credible evidence to support it when absurd things are conveyed. We can hardly blame the young people who think that 30% of people are gay. After all, this is what they see on the only thing that passes for reality for them–TV. Here they are spoon fed the “truth” as they are to receive it. There is to be no questioning, only blind acceptance. Sort of makes TV a brainwashing cult, like the media tends to believe all religious organizations are, just teaching their blinded followers to exude hate and prejudice against anyone who would dare to speak against the received dogma as the media presents it.

    1. Where was your comment 30 years ago when I, as one of the brainwashed, needed it most? :-)

For what it’s worth: I just keep a link list of a bunch of WK postings on my favorites bar under different categories – SSM, abortion, atheism (quite full :-)), debates, etc. I got tired of repeatedly looking them up. Now, in my online debates, I introduce the concept with a short paragraph, follow it with “you are hereby refuted,” and provide the link. For a little while, I tried to go back to the WK posting and let him know where I referenced it, but the war has turned into one involving machine guns and I no longer have time to properly credit the ammunition manufacturer. :-) He will have to wait to get his rewards in Heaven. :-)

I’m pretty sure most people do this, but since I keep hearing the same arguments over and over, it is good to have the links handy and somewhat organized.

      1. More power to you. But the source becomes necessary because the other side wants us to believe that they are using real ammunition. The Matrix in which they live tells them we are using fake bullets. Sourcing makes the bullets more real. And we all know that, in the Matrix, what one thinks is real becomes real indeed. Enough shots from real bullets and they might be inclined to swallow the red pill at last. While I was always aware of the flimflam, I still remember how difficult was the day I swallowed it and saw just how big the hoax really was. We have to remember from where we have come and be patient with those who haven’t crossed over yet.

The merely ignorant can be educated. There is no cure for stupidity.

        1. Well, I will have you know that I just upgraded the title on my resume for my first 42 years from “stupid” to “ignorant.” :-)

  2. Probably the truth is a bit higher since so many confused people “deny” stuff. But still, this has got to deflate the left. 1.6% gay? Yikes.
another myth I’m discovering that’s out there is that tech-types are all left wing. Not so. Not so.

    1. I will tell you one thing: the New Atheists are not in the same league as us (former) Old Atheists, when it comes to science, math, and engineering. The total lack of sophomore level logic I see in their “reasoning” is truly appalling! There is a reason we will never make it back to the moon, much less to Mars (low earth orbit, anyone?), and it is because this younger generation is mostly scientifically and logically illiterate.

Yes, they do know how to use their cell phones, iPads, and narcissist-in-your-Face-book quite well: they just cannot do anything productive with them. (Other than sign up for welfare, download their electronic food stamps, and schedule their girlfriend’s abortion.)

    2. Oh, no, all right wing religious types are ignorant, anti-science luddites. I saw it on TV, so it has to be true….

  3. It would be interesting to see a specific study on the percentage of persons 30-15 identify as gay or lesbian. I realize they probably excluded anyone under 18 on the premise that they were still discovering their sexuality and might be confused. But that is itself an assumption of gay culture: the idea that males don’t naturally find themselves liking girls when they hit puberty.
