What happens in places that adopt Green New Deal Democrat energy policies?

What green energy policies did to electricity costs in California
What green energy policies did to electricity costs in California

The secular leftist approach to politics is to suggest policies that make them feel good and look good to others. It doesn’t matter if the policies work for people. Conservatives believe in looking at what has worked in other times and places, and doing what works. After all, a wise man learns from successes and failures of other people. We can’t try everything ourselves, we should just do what works.

Let’s start with California. California has long been at the forefront of converting their energy production to “green” sources.

Here’s an article from Forbes that talks about their results:

At the Democratic National Convention this week, presidential and vice-presidential candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will make the case for spending $2 trillion, or $500 billion per year, to transition the U.S. away from fossil fuels toward renewables like solar and wind.

[…]California’s big bet on renewables, and shunning of natural gas and nuclear, is directly responsible for the state’s blackouts and high electricity prices.

“We will be forced today to ask utilities to cut off power to millions today, and tomorrow, and beyond,” said Stephen Berberich, the President and CEO of California’s Independent System Operator, CAISO, on a Monday morning conference call. “Demand will greatly exceed supply.”

The immediate cause of California’s blackouts is a mismatch between electricity supply and demand.

[…]The underlying reason blackouts are occurring is because California lacks reliable, in-state supply. And the reason for that is California has been closing both natural gas and nuclear power plants.

[…]Despite these capacity shortfalls, the state is moving ahead with plans to remove 2,200-MW of reliable electricity from the grid.  That’s the amount of power produced by Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, which will be closed in stages in 2024 and 2025.

So, Green New Deal works great… if your goal is to feel good about yourself, and make emotion-driven people like you. But it isn’t very good at generating an abundance of low-cost electricity to power businesses. And it isn’t very good for poor people, who prefer to pay less for their electricity.

Well, how about Germany? They closed down their nuclear power plants in favor of wind and solar. It didn’t work.

Daily Caller explains:

Germany’s power grid almost collapsed in January due to poor performance from wind turbines and solar panels, according to data from a major trade union.

Wind and solar power plants under-performed in January, 2017, because of cloudy weather with little or no wind, setting the stage for massive blackouts.

[…]Green energy approaches failed to meet Germany’s stated energy goals, even after spending over $1.1 trillion. The country’s “Energiewende” plan to boost wind and solar production to fight global warming hasn’t significantly reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and may have actually caused them to go up.

[…]Due to the inherent unreliable performance of wind power and political opposition to nuclear power plants, Germany has been forced to return to coal to generate electricity. Coal now provides 44 percent of  Germany’s power,  This shift caused Germany’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to actually rise by 28 million tons each year following the policy shift.

All of Germany’s subsidies and support for green energy have sharply increased power prices, with the average German paying 39 cents per kilowatt-hour for electricity. The average American only spends 10.4 cents per kilowatt-hour by comparison.

So, you get less electricity produced, more emissions, and elctricity prices go up. Just like in California.

Well, third try is the charm. How about Canada? They’ve gone Green New Deal for more than a decade. How is that working for them?

The National Post reported this in 2016:

Back in 2010, deep green environmentalist Rick Smith, then head of Environmental Defence Canada, hailed Ontario’s Green Energy and Green Economy Act regime as a cost-free operation that would catapult the province into the big leagues of renewable energy. Through fat subsidies and high prices offered to wind, solar and other renewable industry players, jobs and growth would boom and Ontario would be free of its dirty coal plants. It was the End of Coal, the government said. The birth of a renewable miracle.

Now, Canadians are paying more:

The doubling of electricity prices since 2005 is big politically, but it is just the top-line item on a long list of problems, misconceptions and outright fabrications that lurk within the Liberal government’s decade-long pursuit of radical greenism.

Because they didn’t listened to engineers… they listened to their hearts:

Ontario’s Society of Professional Engineers has issued more than half a dozen critical reports on the Liberals’ tendency to let green talk and politics override sound policy. Instead of following the expert advice of engineers and people who understand the intricacies of electricity production and distribution, the government took to issuing directives right out the Premier’s office.

Now, I know some people on the secular left are going to disagree with these facts. But they don’t have facts to counter these facts. There isn’t a single country that has gone Green New Deal that has lower electricity prices and a net increase in jobs.

We have to do what works. What works is more natural gas (fracking) and more nuclear power.

Governor Cuomo opposes investigation of nursing home deaths in New York

Governor Andrew Cuomo is the least competent at handling COVID
Governor Andrew Cuomo is the least competent at handling COVID

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo likes to talk about how COVID deaths are all Trump’s fault, but his state has one of the worst per-capita death rates. And that’s largely a result of his own decision-making. He decided to send “recovered” COVID patients back into nursing homes, which resulted in thousands of additional deaths. So, is he taking responsibility? Does he want an investigation?

Here’s the story from Daily Caller:

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo dismissed suggestions Monday that local officials are undercounting coronavirus deaths at nursing homes while a several reports indicate the state inaccurately measured how the virus affected long-term care facilities.

New York will not conduct an investigation into nursing home deaths during the pandemic, Cuomo said during a press conference Monday. His insistence that there is no controversy comes after media reports show the state only counts people who died on nursing home property and not those who died after being transferred to hospitals.

[…]The virus has hit New York and New Jersey particularly hard. More than 32,000 people have died in New York from coronavirus, while New Jersey has a death toll of 15,785, data show. More than 6,000 of the fatalities in New York reportedly came from nursing homes, the New York Times media reported.

New York began omitting an unknown number of coronavirus deaths in May regarding how many people are dying in nursing homes, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported in May. The New York State Department of Health acknowledged the discrepancy in a statement to the DCNF that month.

Cuomo faced criticism in May for ordering long term facilities to accept patients from hospitals who tested positive for the virus. He rescinded the March 25 order in May after experts argued the move led to higher levels of death among nursing home residents, The Wall Street Journal reported.

This is the person lecturing Donald Trump on “mishandling” of the Wuhan Coronavirus. He’s literally the worst person at protecting his people, but he loves to point fingers at people who are not even in charge of a state.

Now, I know that Cuomo has no problem with infanticiding innocent babies after they are born. So if he has no problem murdering innocent people, then why think he has a problem murdering less innocent people? He doesn’t care. He’ll do anything to make Trump look bad in an election year. Besides, killing off the elderly reduces the “overpopulation” that Democrats are always so scared of. And it makes room in the hospitals for people who want abortions.

This article from the New York Post notes that Cuomo made other mistakes that raised the death count in his state:

Cuomo is praised even after he and the department of health spent years stripping New York City’s outer boroughs of sufficient hospital beds and equipment. There are five hospital beds for every 1,000 residents in Manhattan, but only 1.8 beds for every 1,000 Queens and Brooklyn residents. The result? When the pandemic struck, those hospitals were overwhelmed fast. The death rate for COVID-19 patients at Mount Sinai hospital in Manhattan was 17%. At Coney Island Hospital, 41% of COVID-19 patients didn’t make it.

Democrats have a lot to say about how terrible Republicans are at dealing with the virus. But red states did a lot better than blue states. The people who are responsible for protecting the public are the governors. New York and New Jersey have Democrat governors. Other poor-performing states – Connecticut, Rhode Island, Lousiana, Michigan, Illinois and Delaware – also have Democrat governors.

Democrat legislator wants to decriminalize gay sex between young adults and minors in some cases

I try to blog about stories where powerful gay rights activists are arrested, charged, convicted or jailed for sex with underage boys. It seems to happen a lot. But what I never expected to see is the gay activists openly lobbying to normalize underage sex with boys. But I guess that’s where the Democrat party is going, and a significant number of American voters are going there with them.

Here’s the story from Daily Wire:

A California state senator is seeking to salvage a bill that could decriminalize gay sex between young adults and minors in some cases, arguing that present state laws governing the sex offender registry unfairly discriminate against the LGBTQ community.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, California state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) is using the last few weeks of the legislative session to mobilize support for SB145, a bill he introduced last year that stalled in a key committee. The legislation would allow “judges discretion over sex-offender registration in all cases involving voluntary intercourse between teenagers ages 14 to 17, who cannot legally consent, and adults who are less than 10 years older.”

This same Democrat party legislator co-sponsored a 2017 bill that made knowingly exposing a partner to HIV no longer a felony. That’s a big priority for Democrats, along with infanticide. These are the big moral issues that they want to see addressed.

I think it’s fine for this guy to have his view and try to push it into law. It’s a free country. I disagree with him that this is a good law. I also think that voters ought to understand what the Democrat party stands for, and vote accordingly.

Joe Biden

In the photo above, you can see Joe Biden speaking at an organization called the “Hum4n R1ghts Campa1gn”. The HRC have the support of prominent Democrats, like Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama, and Joe Biden, who have spoken at their events. But did you know about the co-founder of this organization?

Fox News reported in 2019 about the co-founder of the HRC:

Prominent Democrat donor T3rry B3an was indicted earlier this month on two counts of sodomy and one count of sex abuse for allegedly having sex with a teenage boy.

B3an was arraigned Thursday on the charges, TV station KGW8 reported. He pleaded not guilty and was taken into custody at Lane County jail in Oregon. He was released Thursday and told KGW8 he was “innocent.”

The indictment was filed on Jan. 4 but made public following the arraignment.

B3an, a gay rights activist who donated almost $70,000 of his own money to former President Barack Obama’s campaign, was charged with sexual abuse in 2014 but the case was dismissed after the alleged victim did not testify. Prosecutors refiled the charges after this, court records stated, according to The Oregonian. The “alleged victim is not named in the new indictment” but the dates are similar to the previous charges, KGW8 noted.

B3an, a real estate developer, and his former boyfriend, Kiah Lawson, allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old boy in a Eugene, Oregon, hotel in September 2013. They allegedly used the app Grindr to arrange the sexual encounter. Lawson was also charged but his case was dismissed.

The Hum4n R1ghts Campa1gn has a lot of corporate partners, who agree with the vision of Terry B3an and his organization. They don’t see anything wrong with the mission of the HRC.

Anyway, this isn’t the first time that something like this has happened.

The far-left New York Times reported on a recent case:

The mayor of Seattle, Ed Murr4y, said on Tuesday that he would resign after announcing in May that he would not seek a second term. Several men have come forward to accuse Mr. Murr4y of sexually abusing them decades ago, when they were underage.

The announcement came just hours after The Seattle Times published a story with an account by a fifth man, Mr. Murr4y’s cousin, who said Mr. Murr4y had abused him in the 1970s.

[..]Mr. Murr4y, 62, a Democrat, is the city’s first openly gay mayor, and had served in the State Legislature for many years before being elected in 2013.

[…]The liberal Mr. Murr4y is generally considered a father of Washington’s same-sex marriage law, which he pressed in the State Legislature for years.

In a previous blog post, I listed SIX more cases like this:

  • a university professor at USC
  • a member of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission
  • two men who adopted nine children
  • two men who adopted a boy
  • an activist who ran an organization for boys
  • two men who adopted a boy from Russia

The mainstream news media never seems to have much to say about these cases. I wonder why.
