Public school teachers aren't interested in serving parents

We spend so much on education, why are American children underperforming?

Here’s what public schools and unionized teachers do instead of teaching children mathematics.

Daily Caller:

Oregon’s Department of Education (ODE) is encouraging teachers to register for a training program that offers a toolkit to help educators “develop an anti-racist math practice.”

An ODE newsletter advertises a Feb. 21 “Pathway To Math Equity Micro-Course” designed for middle school teachers to use to help them in “dismantling racism in mathematics instruction.”

[…]The toolkit offers teachers help in “deconstructing racism” in the classroom and “dismantling white supremacy in math classrooms by visibilizing the the toxic characteristics of white supremacy culture with respect to math.”

Oh yes! Visibilizing!

Some of the ways in which white supremacy shows up in classrooms, according to the toolkit, is when “the focus is on getting the ‘right’ answer.”

[…]Instead, teachers should have students “come up with at least two answers that might solve this problem” and challenge standardized test questions by justifying why every other answer is incorrect.

Yes, we don’t want children to do math and get right answers. Getting the right answers is “racist”. I wonder why Asian countries are so much better than America at teaching their students to get right answers. Don’t they know how racist that is?

Next, City Journal:

A Philadelphia elementary school recently forced fifth-grade students to celebrate “black communism” and simulate a Black Power rally in honor of political radical Angela Davis.

[…]At the conclusion of the unit, the teacher led the ten- and eleven-year-old students into the school auditorium to “simulate” a Black Power rally to “free Angela Davis” from prison, where she had once been held while awaiting trial on charges of conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder. The students marched on the stage, holding signs that read “Black Power,” “Jail Trump,” “Free Angela,” and “Black Power Matters.” They chanted about Africa and ancestral power, then shouted “Free Angela! Free Angela!” as they stood at the front of the stage.

The William D. Kelley School has long been one of the most troubled in the district. The school’s student population is 94 percent black and 100 percent “economically disadvantaged.” Academically, it is one of the worst-performing schools in Pennsylvania. By sixth grade, only 3 percent of students are proficient in math, and 9 percent are proficient in reading. By graduation, only 13 percent of Kelley students will have achieved basic literacy.

[…]Unfortunately, the programs at William Kelley are no aberration. In recent years, the entire Philadelphia public school system has embraced the philosophy of “antiracism.” Last summer, the superintendent released an Antiracism Declaration promising to “[dismantle] systems of racial inequity” and circulated a memo recommending racially segregated training programs for white and black educators. The local teachers’ union produced a video denouncing the United States as a “settler colony built on white supremacy and capitalism” that has created a “system that lifts up white people over everyone else.” The solution, according to the union, is to overthrow the “racist structure of capitalism,” provide “reparations for Black and Indigenous people,” and “uproot white supremacy and plant the seeds for a new world.”

They know that if they can indoctrinate your children to vote for socialism, then they’ll get a raise from their allies in the Democrat party.

After spending millions to support President Biden and other Democrats in the 2020 election cycle, teachers unions are finding Biden to be a reliable ally as they fight back against school districts and parents who want them to return to classrooms amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Teachers unions have ramped up their political spending, increasing from $4.3 million in 2004 to $43.7 million in 2020, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

The teachers unions also lean heavily Democratic in their donations, including the Federation of American Teachers, which gave $2 million to pro-Biden super PAC Priorities USA Action. The Federation of American Teachers gave more than $14 million to liberal groups between 2019 and 2020. The National Education Association, another teachers union, gave more than $23 million to liberal groups during the same time period, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Just 2% of teachers union donations in the 2020 cycle went to Republicans, the numbers show.

Teacher unions donate millions of dollars to Democrats and leftist political activists every election cycle.

  1. They make statements claiming white supremacy exists in mathematics without explaining how that can be. I suspect they would respond a’la Ghostbusters: “Back off, man. I’m an educator!”

  2. It’s mind boggling where they get all this craziness. Seriously, math is racist?

Sounds like they must think being ignorant and violent is their culture. Makes sense, since they call any black kid applying himself to do better than his parents “acting white.” No, you “educators” are just acting evil.

    1. It’s amazing that the people in my community (non-whites) look at doing well in school and white. When Indians and orientals do a lot better than whites. So really, black people are telling their kids not to act like successful Indians and Asians etc. It’s incredibly stupid.

  3. At the very heart of the failure is the false image of ” how to learn -cynicism ”
As Chesterton sort of said , you don’t learn from cynicism , but by testing things in faith. If you don’t build, you destroy.

  4. Very easy to explain, as we were teaching in the classrooms over the past couple of decades (more). While we worked very hard to ensure basic skills, then raise the bar, including supplemental lessons, projects, and group activities, what was being promoted by radical influences were curriculums so full no new teachers could decipher, intense focus on the basics and standards (Which were not conducive to higher education.) so teachers would have no time for projects and lessons that truly teach skills in preparation for tomorrow, no homework (So kids were taught that homework was punishment.), no success for the truly hardworking (Everybody was getting brownie buttons and participation ribbons.), and buy your grades. A friend explained the principal asked him to pass a kid, at least a D, so he would go on. They couldn’t keep him back, anyways, in the socialist climate. The counselors (many) were training the students to feel sorry for themselves, think only about their feelings, and “feel” the adult world is cruel for expecting better things from them. We have read and heard that “they’re” using the kids and teens to rat out on their peers, teachers, and parents for more traditional/correct thinking. **Any parent sending their children to propaganda/socialist/communist camps will get what they deserve. Parents’ responsibility are to protect, guide, and educate their children.

  5. Never fully trust “professionals”, “experts,” or those purportedly “in the know.” Freedom is founded on individuals thinking for themselves, with responsibility.
