Public school bus driver blasts little girl for discussing Christianity

From Lone Wolf Archer. (H/T Neil Simpson’s latest round-up)

Story is here. (This link also has a video with more of the audio of the bus driver)

Excerpt:

After the girl was dropped off, Zimmer said a bus camera showed Campbell telling the students, “If you can’t believe in tolerance toward one another, you don’t belong here. You belong in a parochial, church school.”

Zimmer also claims the bus driver questioned another student about whether Rachael ever said anything racist to him.

“If she says anything racial to you, I want to know about it, because I am going to eat her alive,” Zimmer said Campbell can be heard saying on the tape. “You’re a smart guy. Rachael is a stupid little bigot.”

Zimmer said Campbell then came back to the girl’s home after all of the children had been let off the bus and brought Rachael and her older sister, who were home alone at the time, onto her empty bus, berating Rachael about her opinions on gay marriage.

“Say we’re a gay couple …and we go to China … and she would adopt a child. She comes back, and if she dies, that child isn’t mine. You can’t keep that kid,” Zimmer said Campbell is heard saying on the tape. “Or I’m filthy rich and she is not, I die, she does not inherit my money. That’s what this is all about.”

When he asked the school district why Campbell wasn’t disciplined, Zimmer said he was told she was working within the scope of her employment.

Notice that the father is forced to pay for these government schools through mandatory taxation. And also note that the school’s only response was to deny that anything was wrong. That’s why public schools are EVIL. We need to have vouchers so that parents can get their money back and send their children to schools they actually want. I think that my fear is that we as Christians are not really serious about protecting our children. We want to have marriages, and families, and children, but we are not really willing to learn about the problems that our children will face from anti-Christian public schools.

If you want to understand what people who are on the other side think of what was done to that little girl, then go to this atheistic blog and read the comments. Warning: there is vulgar language. Atheism is an amoral worldview. And it’s the worldview that is increasingly present in the Democrat party, which is hostile to public expressions of Christian faith.

My plan at this point is homeschooling for kindergarten through grade 6, then private schools all the way on from there. I wish I could get my money back from the government for these public schools, health services, and pensions that they are providing to everyone else, but oh well.

  1. “My plan at this point is homeschooling for kindergarten through grade 6, then private schools all the way on from there. I wish I could get my money back from the government for these public schools, health services, and pensions that they are providing to everyone else, but oh well.”

Good plan, and well said related to our forced subsidizing of a failed public school system that increasingly hostile toward our faith. I think the founders would been distraught over what is going on today in our public schools. After all, that is the kind of thing they sailed across the ocean to get away from.

  2. These increasing restrictions on free speech are worrying. And they call themselves “liberals”. Such a misnomer…

  3. A sad story and an unfortunate case of an adult not being able to act properly in front of a child. Too bad they couldn’t sort it out with a cup of coffee and a chat.

I’m not sure I’d take your stance that removing our kids from public schools is the best way though. If all Christians stick to private or home schooled education, how is anyone going to hear the gospel in those schools? Times are going to get tougher, Jesus warned we would face persecution – He died and He was perfect – why do we expect anything less? Instead of pulling children out, educate them and encourage them at home with good reason for their faith and they will be better witnesses than we can ever be.

I’m worried about my future family, my kids will have to deal with agression I have never experienced. All I can do is pray and teach them as much as I can so they will be prepared to live for Christ in all circumstances.

    1. Please listen to the podcast on education that I just posted from Wayne Grudem. Small government is the friend of Christians. Starve the beast.

There is A LOT more you can do than pray. You can learn about education policy and effect change that is in line with a Biblical worldview. William Wilberforce didn’t just pray about slavery, and Scott Klusendorf doesn’t just pray about abortion. Praying is the least you can do. My advice is to listen to the Grudem podcast to hear a Christian view of education policy.

      1. Sorry wintery, pray was the first half of a sentence. Teaching them was the second half and by that I mean preparing them for what is to come.

I agree with you though, too many people do just pray and don’t do. I agree also we should try and stand up for correct policy through governement, this was not my discussion.

My discussion is that you were saying to put your kids in private education and remove them from public. This is what i was disagreeing with.

    2. Hmmm, I think you miss the point. The Christians are already barred from teaching the gospel in the schools. All you do by keeping your kids in public schools is to allow their faith to be attacked on a daily basis.

Personally, I choose to home-school to avoid the latter.

        1. Yes, our daughter is home schooled. And let me tell you, she is way advanced for her age. She is in the last couple of weeks of her 1st grade year, and the curriculum that we used was a mixture of 2nd and 3rd grade material. She is reading at an above 3rd grade level. She is doing math that most don’t get into until 3rd grade. She complete her Biblical studies early (she couldn’t wait to get to Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection so she read ahead!).

The one-on-one, (or 2-on-1, 3-on-1 if you have more kids), with an actively engaged parent cannot be replaced by a public classroom setting. It is impossible. People can send their kids to public school out of convenience, but they are kidding themselves if they think their children are getting the same kind of education that a parent could provide.

Of course, my degreed wife gave up a high-paying job to stay home with our daughter. We had to cut our budget to accommodate, but the sacrifices we made for our daughter’s future were well worth the benefits we are already witnessing.

      1. LoneWolfArcher, you make a good point. I think this is especially true when children are young (what we call junior school in my country, not sure about yours). Early on, children don’t have the same capacity to discern when they’re being taught rubbish. It needs to be developed. And it’s the job of the parents to teach the child right from wrong and to develop his or her ability to think critically. Yes, we do want to be involved in the culture to impact it for good. But children need to develop the cognitive tools to do that effectively first.

      2. Could be that I just have a different point of view (being an english missionary kid who went to a large mission school in Papua New Guinea does tend to make you look at things differently) – I don’t think I’ve missed the point too much.

There is a major opportunity for a child to stand up for the faith and to really understand what they believe. The only way to do that properly is to have their faith challenged. Not every child in a public school is an angry atheist bully, neither are all the teachers. Unfortunately though, all we hear about are the horror stories.

Teachers may be barred from preaching the gospel but the children are under no such obligation.

I would also not recommend leaving their education solely to the school. I look forward to being able to help my future kids challenge text books and teachers. Should be fun!

        1. Not my little girl. It’s not fair for a madwoman to order my children around and ask them to defend things that they haven’t even learned about yet. Frankly, that was child abuse. I don’t know what I would have done to that woman for attacking my children like that. What makes these adult liberals go after children like this and push their secular leftist views on them against the parents wishes? What gives them the right? And with my taxpayer money!

It’s an abuse of power. It’s sick and disgusting.

          1. I hear what you are saying wintery and I agree we should stand up for ourselves. But this sort of thing is going to happen more and more and our kids our going to face that no matter whether they are in home school or not. As soon as they discuss their beliefs in public they are going to face stronger and possibly violent opposition. I’m not saying its right and I’m not saying secular leftists have the right to be abusive, I’m just saying we should be more prepared for it.

We see this bus driver for what she is because a girl stood up for what she believes in. The bus driver should be disciplined for it, yes, but the girl needs to realise that telling others of the gospel will be offensive to many. It won’t be nice, and we should fight against abuse as long as possible, but this will get harder.

I don’t want you to think I’m standing up for the behaviour of the lady on the bus. I just think Christians need to realise that the real gospel is offensive to many – Jesus was tortured and crucified and He is the gospel – why do we Christians expect to be treated any better just because we pay taxes?
