UPDATE: The latest update on Rifqa is here (October 13, 2009).
Check out this story of a young girl from Ohio who converted to Christianity and fled to Florida from her Muslim parents. She hitchhiked to the bus station and took a Greyhound from Ohio to Florida because she was afraid that her father would carry out his threats to murder her.
Here’s the video:
The transcript of the video is here on Jihad Watch.
Excerpt:
Well, I’m a Christian, and my parents are Muslim. They’re extremely devout. And they can’t know about my faith – well, they do now. But they’ve threatened to kill me. I don’t know if you know about honor killing….You guys don’t understand. Islam is very different than you guys think. They have to kill me. My blood is now halal, which means that because I am now a Christian, I’m from a Muslim background, it’s an honor. If they love God more than me, they have to do this. And I’m fighting for my life, you guys don’t understand. You don’t understand.
Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs reports that the child suffered violent beatings from her parents that were reported to the school counselors. The parents attend a very hard-line mosque (the “Noor Islamic Cultural Center”) that taught Islamic supremacy.
You can read more about the mosque here at the Jawa Report.
Jihad Watch has information on what you can do to make sure she is not killed by her parents:

One of the big things coming out of the media, who, and this may shock you, so be sure you’re sitting down, who is not always a fair representative of Christianity, or of Islam but in a different way, is that she was “brainwashed” by this Christian couple to become a Christian.
Hogwash.
Her Facebook site clearly shows that she’s been a Christian since 2007.

Yes, that’s on the Atlas Shrugs site. It was a story from PAKISTAN media. Be skeptical.

Oh come on fellas. We all know what a peaceful religion Islam is. She just had to be brainwashed!
(yes, I’m being sarcastic!)

COURT EXPECTED TO SEND RUNAWAY TEEN HOME DESPITE MUSLIM HONOR KILLING FEARS
Friday, August 21, 2009
A 17-year-old girl who fled to Florida after converting from Islam to Christianity will almost certainly be forced to return home to Ohio, experts say, despite her fears that she will become the victim of an honor killing for abandoning her parents’ faith…

I have been praying about this and the 2 women in Iran pretty much continuously.

Please urge everyone you know to contact the governor’s office to avoid a hasty decision. If this girl dies the blood is on everyone’s hands that sent her back without her wishes.

My concern is with her safety. If her family has delusional thoughts of killing her, she has to be protected. Many of you say she was brain washed, but she is 17 and at 17 does she not have right to practice the religion of her choice? Under our bill of rights is her right to choose her religion not protected? Does her family have the right to abuse or neglect her because she wants to be a Christian? Pray she stays safe and can continue her life as a free citizen of this country.

Actually no one except the Pakistani news media is saying she was brainwashed. My opinion is that most rational women would prefer Christianity to Islam if they had any choice in the matter. Women want to be loved, and Christian men who love their wives in the same way that Christ loves would be very happy indeed.

Say, isn’t that a requirement for Christian husbands? I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere… ;)

One day I’ll write something about that.

Somewhere being the bible. The bible tells husbands to love their wives, and wives to love and submit to their husbands. that must be where =)

I find it interesting how restrained the U.S. government has been in intervening to protect this young girl from a potentially violent Muslim family. Contrast this with other recent cases such as this one in Texas [http://ezralevant.com/2009/07/government-as-kidnapper.html] where the U.S. government ran in and seized 437 children based on an incorrect tip.
Does this have anything to do with the fact that the Muslim community might get upset?

“If her family has delusional thoughts of killing her, she has to be protected.”
The thoughts aren’t delusional. Their religion demands it.
If a person says otherwise, they are going against the clear words of the Koran and the Hadith.

Anyone notice something here?
Fox News has been showing pictures of this girl in a cheerleader outfit, and her eyes are normal. Recently, they showed video of her in a courtroom, and it is noticeable in the above video, her right eye has been clearly damaged and unusable. In fact, in the Fox video, the eye appears to have shrunken due to the damage…
Has anyone asked the question how her eye was injured? That certainly is in keeping with her story of abuse. My guess her father did this to her.

I want people to have freedom to choose their own religion based on their own investigations without facing violence and coercion. Sorry if this offended you.

Jesus told us to ggo out into all the world and preach the gospel. a command thats been ignored so much. This definetly astonished me to know that there are muslims living in the US that practice that. when my church went on a missions trip to detroit, where muslims are very common, i had a real eye opener to how little of God this world, our country knows. If we really did what Christ asked us in the first place (not saying the apostles or anyone else didnt) then maybe we wouldnt have to worry about this girl in the first place. am i right?
