How the left-wing media conspired to label conservatives as racists

Story here by Fred Barnes in the Wall Street Journal.

Excerpt:

It’s thanks to Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller website that we know something about JournoList, though the emails among the liberal journalists were meant to be private. (Mr. Carlson hasn’t revealed how he obtained the emails.) In June, the Daily Caller disclosed a series of JournoList musings by David Weigel, then a Washington Post blogger assigned to cover conservatives. His emails showed he loathes conservatives, and he was subsequently fired.

This week, Mr. Carlson produced a series of JournoList emails from April 2008, when Barack Obama’s presidential bid was in serious jeopardy. Videos of the antiwhite, anti-American sermons of his Chicago pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, had surfaced, first on ABC and then other networks.

JournoList contributors discussed strategies to aid Mr. Obama by deflecting the controversy. They went public with a letter criticizing an ABC interview of Mr. Obama that dwelled on his association with Mr. Wright. Then, Spencer Ackerman of The Washington Independent proposed attacking Mr. Obama’s critics as racists. He wrote:

“If the right forces us all to either defend Wright or tear him down, no matter what we choose, we lose the game they’ve put upon us. Instead, take one of them—Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares—and call them racists. . . . This makes them ‘sputter’ with rage, which in turn leads to overreaction and self-destruction.”

Mainstream news media cannot be trusted to be objective. It’s just propaganda for the secular left.

Washington Post blogger is an advisor for the Obama administration

Story from Big Journalism. (H/T ECM)

Excerpt:

Ron Brynaert has a story over at his The Raw Story blog that reveals yet another denizen of the Old Media trying to be both a “journalist” and an operative of Barack Obama’s administration. She is Patricia McGinnis, an unpaid advisor at the White House and also one of the contributors to the Post’s “On Leadership” blog.

Once again we see the Old Media working hand-in-hand with the Obama administration and putting the lie to the idea of the “independent journalist” in traditional media outlets, this time with the Washington Post. Even worse than this collusion, though, is the fact that the Post somehow forgot to inform its readers of this little detail.

[…]While the position is unpaid, her work for Obama certainly would seem to be a pertinent fact that readers might want to know in order to assess the veracity of her work in the pages of the newspaper. Mysteriously, though, her work with Obama is not mentioned in her official bio on the Washington Post’s website.

[…]Just last month the Post’s supposed conservative blogger, Dave Weigel, had to quit when it was revealed his personal politics were extremely leftist, although he had presented himself as a conservative to both the readers and the editorial board of the paper.

That’s why newspapers are dying – they can’t be relied on to be objective. It’s just propaganda. If you don’t have two people on opposite sides talking, then it’s not objective.

Quebec billionaire considering center-right news network

Political Map of Canada

Story here from the left-wing Globe and Mail.

Excerpt:

Quebec billionaire Pierre Karl Péladeau is attempting a major shakeup of television news in Canada, with plans to launch a 24-hour cable channel modelled on the right-leaning U.S. network Fox News.

It is a shot aimed directly at CBC and CTV, which for years have dominated the all-news format in English Canada. For months, Mr. Péladeau’s Montreal-based media empire, Quebecor Inc., has been putting together plans for a channel that will tap the same conservative sentiment that has made Fox News a major contender for ratings in the U.S.

To operate the upstart news network, Quebecor has enlisted a former senior aide to Prime Minister Stephen Harper to oversee the operations. Kory Teneycke, who served as director of communications to Mr. Harper in 2008 and 2009, has been appointed vice-president of business development at Quebecor Media Inc. and will lead the new project.

[…]An application for a licence was submitted to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission late last week. Though Quebecor’s plans are not yet public, a source said a formal announcement on the venture is “imminent.”

Canada already has Fox News in at least some areas, but Fox News doesn’t have specifically Canadian coverage. A Canadian news channel that isn’t left wing would be unbelievable for Canada. Canadian media is dominated by the left.

The problem is that the CRTC, a government body, has to approve each and every TV channel. There was a huge controversy over the approval of Fox News, so it’s not clear that the government will approve this new news channel. The powers that be in Canada are not really open to hearing new ideas on the other side.

Remember, this is the country that censors pro-lifers on campus and persecutes people in Human Rights Commission trials. Liberty and free speech are under attack up there.
