New study: same-sex attraction isn’t fixed

Young people seem to like gay marriage more than they like individual liberties

The Federalist reports on what researchers have found about the nature of same-sex attraction. Is it fixed? Or does it change over time? I think that gay activists would like everyone to believe that same-sex attraction is fixed, but to learn the truth, we should look at what the scientific research says.

Excerpt:

There is not only no scientific evidence that sexual orientation is immutable, there is conclusive scientific evidence that most people who experience exclusive same-sex attraction end up developing an interest in the opposite sex over time.

This is so well established by now that scholars are busy publishing methods to measure frequency of sexual orientation change in massive longitudinal studies of youth and young adults. (I.e., How many times in nine years can we expect a homosexual sexual orientation to change? Is the change associated with lifestyle habits? Who changes more frequently: males or females?)

That basic fact was already settled science when Obergefell  came before the Supreme Court. Half a dozen rigorous studies could be cited from the late 1990s and early 2000s, but the most noteworthy probably remains a Cornell-led study published in 2007.

In this study, Dr. Rich Savin-Williams examined a representative sample of more than 12,000 American youth, following each from the age of 16 to 22. Rather than rely on an individual’s reconstruction of his or her past based on current identity, researchers met with subjects three times throughout the six-year period. Each time, they asked individuals (via a computer, to protect privacy) whether they had had a romantic attraction to a member of the opposite or same sex since their last interview.

For instance, 17-year-old males were asked if, in the past year, they had had a romantic attraction to another male or female. About 1.5 percent reported only having a romantic attraction to other males. Five years later, when that 1.5 percent were asked about their romantic attractions since last interview, the overwhelming majority (70 percent) reported a 180-degree flip in their sexual orientation—they only had romantic feelings for women.

Similarly, among females, about 40 percent switched from exclusive same-sex attraction to exclusive opposite-sex attraction. Most of the rest (45 percent of the total) reported they had feelings for both men and women. Only 1 percent of women who, at 17, reported a full year of exclusive same-sex attraction reported a similar experience in the five years that followed.

This research is in agreement with previous research on identical twin studies reported by the prestigious science journal Nature:

When one identical twin is gay, there is about a 20% chance that the other will be as well. But because this rate is not 100%, it is thought that environmental factors play a role as well. One of the best characterized is the ‘older brother effect’: the chance of a man being gay increases by 33% for each older brother he has. The reason is not clear, although one hypothesis holds that the mother’s immune system begins to react against male antigens and alter the fetus’s development.

So, it turns out that homosexual behavior is a lot more related to free choices than it is to innate, fixed dispositions. That’s what the science says. It’s not what the politicians say. It’s not what the Supreme Court says. It’s not what Hollywood says. It’s not what journalists say. But it is what science has found to be true about the universe. We are in control of our behaviors, and we have to choose things that are likely to work out in the long-term – not just what feels good to us in the moment.

Whenever I hear gay activists complaining that they have no choice but to give in to their “innate, fixed, biological” sexual attractions, I always think about how I’ve never been married and have had to deal with sexual attraction to the opposite sex. As a Christian, there is simply no Biblical support for sex outside of marriage. So, that means that I’ve had to just live with not being allowed to act on my desires. In fact, this is the normal Christian life. There was a time when people had more skepticism about their feelings and desires, and they knew that self-control was a good thing. But now it seems as if everyone is so desperate to be liked that we tell everyone yes to everything that they feel like doing. We now consider every moral viewpoint as equal to any other – all the better to do what makes us feel happy. The important goal is that we all feel good right now, and who cares about the damage that our selfishness will cause down the road? We can just act surprised when that happens and pretend that there is no such thing as cause and effect. I can remember a time when Christians in particular had some suspicion about following your heart, because the heart was deceitful and selfish. I guess those days are over, and suddenly feelings are ruling over reason and self-control.

It’s pretty clear that not everything that a person feels like doing is good for them. A lot of decisions that people make to feel good right now lead to outcomes where they or the people who are depending on them will be harmed. For example, lots of people feel like staying home from a school exam, or staying home from their jobs, or drinking alcohol all night, or taking drugs. We used to have more confidence about telling people that not everything they wanted was good for them, and to have more self-control, and to think of how their decisions would harm others. Today, society has drifted away from objective moral boundaries and self-control toward subjective feelings and moral relativism, we are all finding it more difficult to tell people that they should choose to adhere to moral standards. We always seem to be looking to big government to make our irresponsible, reckless choices to be happy in the moment “work out” somehow.

Today, when people make poor decisions that wreck their families, hurt their kids, damage their health, etc. we are more likely to tax the people who haven’t been selfish and reckless in order to pay for government programs that “fix” the outcomes of the selfish, reckless people. In some countries, you can get free single mother welfare, free taxpayer-funded abortions, free sex-changes, free treatment for sexually-transmitted diseases, free rounds of IVF, and so on. Just do whatever you want and someone else who had more self-control than you did will pay for it for you. That’s why we have a twenty-trillion dollar debt, which we never had during the time when we still had the courage to tell people not to do things that were risky, and would be expensive to fix when they blew up.

When did it become normal to think that cause and effect were so unpredictable that people shouldn’t be blamed and held accountable for making bad decisions? When did it become normal to think that doing what feels good for ourselves should be rewarded with other people’s money, through big government programs? When did it become normal to take people to court to force them to celebrate your self-centeredness, just because their disagreement with what you were doing made you feel bad?

Soros-backed “Defund The Police” DA celebrates banning cash bail in Illinois

I live in a red state and I am constantly running into people who moved here from blue states like California and Illinois. I ask people why they left, and the most common answer is that taxpayer-funded law enforcement is not protecting the public from illegal immigrants and other criminals. Why is that? Well, a big part of the problem is far-left district attorneys backed by George Soros.

Here’s the latest from Daily Wire:

On Monday, Illinois became the first state to eliminate cash bail in a move celebrated by Democratic officials and criticized by law enforcement.

After a lengthy legal battle, Illinois’ Safety, Accountability, Fairness, and Equity-Today Act (SAFE-T Act) went into effect on Monday, meaning that meeting cash bail can no longer be a condition for release.

The bill was praised by Cook County District Attorney Kim Foxx, “a George Soros-backed prosecutor who has faced criticism over her approach to law enforcement in the Chicago area”.

Ending cash bail means that people arrested for a crime don’t have to pay their bail amount with cash in order to be released. They get their money back when they appear for trial. So, people who are accused of crimes can get released without actually paying any immediate penalty. It’s not even clear to me why they would appear in court, since they have paid nothing that they need to get back.

The police don’t like it:

The cash bail provision of the SAFE-T Act was first put on hold by the Illinois Supreme Court before it upheld the law in July, a decision criticized by the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police.

“The court ignored the pleas of nearly every prosecutor in the state of Illinois, Democrat and Republican, that the elimination of cash bail will put dangerous criminals back on the street, instead of keeping them in jail or forcing them to post cash bail as they await trial. Many of those offenders will commit crimes again within hours of their release,” Illinois FOP State Lodge President Chris Southwood said after the decision was released.

“And who will have to arrest those offenders again and again? The police officers whose jobs have been made immeasurably more difficult by all of the new anti-law enforcement measures that are in place,” he added.

How well has George Soros / Defund the Police policies been working out in Illinois? They’ve been soft on crime for years, but hard on legal gun owners and self-defense against criminals. Is that a good way to make crime rates go down?

Illinois Policy explains:

Crime in Chicago overall has increased during the past five years by nearly 20%, according to an official report by the Chicago Police Department. The year-over-year change in crime was even greater last year. Between 2021 and 2022, overall crime in Chicago increased by 41%, after overall crime had decreased each year in 2019 and 2020 and slightly increased in 2021.

Theft is driving the overall increase in crime. Car theft is up 114% since 2018, and other thefts increased by 32% since 2018. Just last year, motor vehicle theft increased by 102% and theft by 56%.

I did see an interesting related story coming out of Florida. Apparently, these Soros-backed Defund-the-Police district attorneys were also in Florida. But something different happened in Florida – Ron DeSantis fired those soft-on-crime people. And he appointed new people.

Florida’s Voice reported this:

Newly appointed State Attorney for Orange and Osceola Counties Andrew Bain provided an update following his first month in office on Thursday.

Bain outlined changes such as the reinstitution of mandatory minimum sentencing for the possession of firearms by felons, bringing back former prosecutors, and sending use of force cases to a grand jury.

In August, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Bain to replace State Attorney Monique Worrell from the ninth Judicial Circuit, following her immediate suspension.

Bain is taking action to reinstitute mandatory minimum sentencing for the possession of firearms by felons.

DeSantis previously said Worrell’s practices or policies of avoiding minimum mandatory sentences for gun crimes “not only defies the expressed will of the Florida Legislature, it also subjects the residents to increased risk of harm as violent criminals in the community are too often left on the streets or prematurely returned to the streets to cause, further violence and mischief.”

“The decision to restore this law and practice is driven by State Attorney Bain’s unwavering dedication to public safety and accountability,” a press release said.

Right now, we are deciding who we should pick for the Republican candidate for President. I like DeSantis because he has all the achievements. And he had to fight for them, and fight through getting called names by the news media. Something to think about.

Biden administration charges two 70-year-old pro-life women

These days it seems like normal people with morals are the primary targets of Biden administration law enforcement. Concerned parent? Then you’re a domestic terrorist. Pro-life? Then we need to pre-dawn raid your house and point assault rifles at your wife and kids. Whistleblower against Hunter Biden? Then maybe you need to be punished for that.

Here’s the latest story from Fox News:

Three pro-lifers who protested at, and blocked access to a Washington, D.C. reproductive health care services clinic in October 2020 were found guilty of federal charges by a jury on Monday.

The Department of Justice said in a press release that 41-year-old Jonathan Darnel of Arlington, Virginia; 73-year-old Jean Marshall of Kingston, Massachusetts; and 74-year-old Joan Bell of Montague, New Jersey were each convicted of federal civil rights conspiracy and freedom of access to clinic entrances (FACE) act offenses.

The DOJ said Marshall and Bell traveled to D.C. to meet with Darnel and to participate in a clinic blockade that was coordinated and streamed live by another co-conspirator on Facebook.

During the blockade on Oct. 22, 2020, the defendants are accused of creating a blockade at the clinic, which prevented the clinic from providing reproductive health services.

Well, that is certainly a crime. It’s not as bad as what BLM and Antifa did during their rioting, though. And many of them got off Scot-free, because the Biden administration law enforcement agreed with what they were doing. So what do you think is a fair sentence for creating a blockade at an abortion clinic?

The Biden administration wants “UP TO ELEVEN YEARS IN PRISON”:

U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who presided over the trial of Marshall, Bell and Darnel, ordered all three defendants immediately detained as required by statute.

Sentencing for the trio will be scheduled at a later date, and each faces up to 11 years in prison, three years of probation and a fine of up to $350,000.

It really does seem like there is a two-tiered justice system in this country. One for Democrats, and one for their opponents.

The Federalist has an especially shocking example:

On Friday, President Joe Biden’s allegedly “non-binary” nuclear waste expert, Sam Brinton, was sentenced in a grand larceny case over stealing women’s luggage from U.S. airports. Police say Brinton stole a bag from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas with an estimated worth of around $3,670. Authorities also charged Brinton with stealing luggage at a second airport in Minnesota.

The former Energy Department official took a plea deal over the Las Vegas bag theft Friday, agreeing to pay a $3,670 fine to the victim and a $500 criminal fee — no jail time required. The Minnesota theft remains an open case, with the next hearing scheduled for Monday, according to Fox News.

Contrast Brinton’s slap on the wrist to a pro-Trump meme creator convicted of illegal election influencing last month, and it’s no wonder Americans see a two-tiered justice system.

Douglass Mackey faces 10 years behind bars over a 2016 post mocking how low Democrats want to set barriers to the ballot box.

Federal prosecutors didn’t even want to give Hunter Biden any jail time, and he is accused of serious tax crimes and gun crimes. I guess tax crimes and gun crimes are only serious if you’re a Republican. If you’re the President’s son, then it’s all OK.

How is any of this fair? The only way to get the people in the government to have integrity and honor is to vote the secular leftists out of the government. We have a chance to do that in 2024.
