Friday night detectives: two episodes of Sherlock Holmes

Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes ever.

Here are 2 episodes of “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”.

The Speckled Band:

The Blue Carbuncle:

These are considered to be two of the best Sherlock Holmes short stories.

Happy Friday!

  1. Thanks for the tip. Jeremy Brett was the definitive Holmes. I think the young Brett looked closest to how Paget drew him.

Have you caught the recent “Sherlock” series from BBC? I find them delightfully entertaining. Although you really have to say they are adapted from the stories, not the actual stories themselves.

One thing I did object to is the portrayal of SH as an atheist. There is no basis in the stories for claiming that, and some slight basis for claiming that he was not (an athiest).

    1. I have not seen the new BBC series, because I don’t have TV and it is too modern anyway.

And yes, in the stories he is a theist. That’s another reason for me not to watch it.

      1. Kudos to you for having no TV. I have cut my watching way back. Pretty much just an occasional movie or a rerun of the Beverly Hillbillies :)

It is truly amazing when you look at sitcoms from today and yesteryear. Today, Jed Clampet would be portrayed a witless, “gun loving”, homophobic buffoon.

  2. I love your blogs. However I must disagree with your choice of Jeremy Brett as the best Holmes ever. My vote goes to Basil Rathbone. Respectfully, ~ d j alimo
