Employee of company that wiped unsecure private e-mail server pleads the 5th

He declines to answer questions, for fear of incriminating himself with his own testimony.

Townhall explains:

Platte River Networks employee Paul Combetta, the person who wiped Hillary Clinton’s private server and email archive with BleachBit, plead the Fifth Tuesday and refused to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee.

“On advise of counsel I respectfully decline to answer and assert my Fifth Amendment privilege,” Combetta said.

Platte River Networks is the company employed by Clinton to host her private email servers and email accounts during her time at the State Department.

According to the timing presented FBI report on the criminal investigation into the servers, Combetta wiped the server with BleachBit four weeks after the investigation started and two weeks after Congress requested all emails be preserved. Combetta has also been accused of wiping the server while under subpoena.

Combetta’s colleague, Bill Thornton, was also called to testify and plead the fifth.

You might remember that another Obama official, Lois Lerner, also pleaded the 5th, during an investigation of the Obama administration’s effort to punish conservative organizations using the IRS.

Details:

Lois Lerner, former director of IRS exempt organizations, invoked her Fifth Amendment rights again Wednesday before a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on the IRS targeting American citizens for their political beliefs.

“On the advice of my counsel, I respectfully exercise my Fifth Amendment right and decline to answer that question,” Lerner said in response to a slew of questions by Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) regarding the IRS targeting of tea party and conservative groups.

You’ll recall that in Obama’s re-election year, the IRS persecuted conservative groups in order to help Obama win re-election. That’s what government workers do with the salaries that taxpayers pay them.  The only solution, of course, is to shut down their departments and only allow the federal government to perform the duties laid out for them in the Constitution. But it looks like Americans prefer to get goodies from their neighbors more than they care about honesty and transparency in government.

FBI report: Clinton team smashed her old devices and wiped server hard drives

I’m not really as interested in politics any more since we don’t have a conservative running as the Republican candidate, but I do still listen to podcasts and read some news stories.

Here is a news story from the Boston Globe that I felt that I had to blog about.

It says:

The Democratic presidential nominee told the FBI she never sought or asked permission to use a private server or email address during her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat from 2009 to 2013. A prior review by the State Department’s internal watchdog concluded the practice violated several polices for the safekeeping and preservation of federal records.

Clinton has repeatedly said her use of private email was allowed. But over a 3 ½ hour interview in July, she told investigators she ‘‘did not explicitly request permission to use a private server or email address,’’ the FBI wrote. They said no one at the State Department raised concerns during her tenure, and that Clinton said everyone with whom she exchanged emails knew she was using a private email address.

[…]Large portions of the FBI documents were censored. The FBI cited exemptions protecting national security and investigative techniques. Previous government reviews of the 55,000 pages of emails Clinton returned to the State Department found that about 110 contained classified information.

Clinton and her legal team deleted thousands more emails she claimed were personal and private. The FBI report details steps taken by Clinton’s staff that appear intended to hamper the recovery of deleted data, including smashing her old Blackberry smartphones with a hammer and using special software to wipe the hard drive of a server she had used.

Funny video of CNN leftists reacting to reality:

The Weekly Standard has been comparing Clinton’s public statements with what she told the FBI, and there headline is “Hillary Signed She Received Briefing on Classified Info, But Told FBI She Hadn’t“.

Look:

Either Hillary Clinton lied to the FBI or she lied on a State Department form as she began her tenure as Secretary of State. This conclusion appears inescapable after Friday’s FBI document release related to the Clinton email investigation.

As revealed by those FBI documents, Clinton told agents that she could not recall “any briefing or training by State related to the retention of federal records of handling of classified information”.

But the second paragraph of the Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement—which she signed on January 22, 2009—states that “I hereby acknowledge that I have received a security indoctrination concerning the nature and protection of classified information.”

[…]The form also notes that classified information is not always so marked, but is still regulated by the agreement.

Wow, that sounds to me like the transparency that Obama promised us in his campaign speeches. He was going to lead the most transparent administration ever, remember? And what is his method of holding his staff accountable for these lies? Well, it’s to not prosecute them.

FBI found 14,900 more emails that Hillary Clinton didn’t turn over to them

This is from the radically leftist Washington Post, of all places:

The FBI’s year-long investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email server uncovered 14,900 emails and documents from her time as secretary of state that had not been disclosed by her attorneys, and a federal judge on Monday pressed the State Department to begin releasing emails sooner than mid-October as it planned.

Justice Department lawyers said last week that the State Department would review and turn over Clinton’s work-related emails to a conservative legal group. The records are among “tens of thousands” of documents found by the FBI in its probe and turned over to the State Department, Justice Department attorney Lisa Ann Olson said Monday in court.

[…]Lawyers for the State Department and Judicial Watch, the legal group, are negotiating a plan for the release of the emails in a civil public records lawsuit before U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg of Washington.

[…]Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit in May 2015 after disclosures that Clinton had exclusively used a personal email server while secretary of state. Judicial Watch had sought all emails sent or received by Clinton at the State Department in a request made under the federal Freedom of Information Act, which covers the release of public records.

Hillary is the first Secretary of State to have a private e-mail server hidden from her employers, which she kept in her home. Hillary withheld more of her emails from investigators as “personal and private”, and released less than half of them to the State Department. She deleted more e-mails than she turned over to the State Department.

I work for a major company. About 1 out of every 1000 e-mails I send is personal, and it is usually a reminder that I sent to myself (and CC my Dad) to bring coffee creamer to work because I ran out. I assume that my employers have access to my work e-mail, which is why I don’t put anything sensitive and personal in it. In any big company, all your work e-mails are subject to investigation if anything goes wrong… which is why Hillary didn’t want her employer having access to hers.

Hillary has been trying to blame her decision to hide her e-mails from her employer on Colin Powell, of all people.

CNN says Powell denies everything she is saying:

Colin Powell is pushing back on reports suggesting that he might have given Hillary Clinton the idea to use a private email account as Secretary of State, telling media outlets that “her people are trying to pin it on me.”

[…]”The truth is, she was using (the private email server) for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did,” Powell said.

CNN has reached out to the Clinton campaign, as well as representatives for Powell, and has not yet received a response.

Powell, who endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008 and 2012, has not yet made a formal endorsement in the 2016 presidential election.

Now, I know what Democrat voters will say to this because I’ve talked to some Democrat voters that I know. They’re not going to care. They don’t have any moral sense to see anything wrong with what Clinton did. What is important to them is that their pro-abortion, anti-religious liberty agenda move forward. Little things like transparency and accountability in government don’t matter. Who cares about morality, the Democrat voters say – just give us our fun and give us our stuff.

I was listening to the Ben Shapiro show Monday night, and he gave his best guess about why Hillary had a private e-mail server. His guess, which surprises no one, is that Hillary sold her authority at the State Department for money. She got contributions to the Clinton Foundation, and enormous speaking fees from banks, foreign corporations, etc. She’s raised half a billion dollars for her campaign. I guess that’s what the Presidency costs these days. And why we can’t get any honest candidates.
