UK man charged with murder after defending home from two burglars

Check out this Green Room post by Laura (from Pursuing Holiness).

Excerpt:

The UK, having made domestic surveillance into an art form, is now at leisure to babysit your children.

No, really. They insist: Parents banned from supervising their own children in playgrounds… in case they are paedophiles.

Supervising children’s every waking moment is the natural next step in a nation where they are subject to death panels, handguns are sufficiently outlawed so they have moved on to knives and big sticks, they are prosecuted for fighting back against burglars who enter their homes and cameras scour the land like the eye of Sauron, watching for anti-social behavior. Over 10,000 cameras in London alone, which do almost nothing for actual crime. So they’re focusing on thoughtcrime, which can be prosecuted without video.

It’s the nanny state. Literally.

Well, that is bad, but I took a closer look at the “fighting back against burglars” link and saw this.

Excerpt:

A council official’s son who allegedly stabbed two burglars breaking into his mother’s home has been charged with murder.

Omari Roberts was hailed a hero after disturbing 17-year-old Tyler Juett and his accomplice, 14.

But yesterday, the 23-year-old appeared in court accused of killing Juett and wounding the younger raider with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The CPS said it decided to charge him for using ‘excessive and gratuitous force’ when the pair tried to burgle the home of Jacqueline McKenzie-Johnson in Nottingham in March.

Criminals have more rights than law-abiding citizens in the UK, because everyone has to be the same. Moral distinctions make people feel bad, so the criminals must be lifted up and the law-abiding must be pushed down. Everyone is equal, right?

Round-up of scary stories about leftists gone wild

These were all  sent to me by ECM, and are too good to pass up!

Environmentalists shut off water to farmers to save tiny fish

Excerpt:

This farmland that has seen their water supply shut off supplies half of America’s vegetables. This impacts over 38 million people. And these farmers are now unable to feed their families, unable to sell their crops, and finding themselves in food lines. They’re still paying water bills, but the water has been shut off. And for what? To keep a three-inch fish alive? Since when is a tiny fish more important than feeding America’s families?

Democrats want to expand Community Reinvestment Act

Excerpt:

A number of experts believe that aggressive enforcement of the 1970s-era Community Reinvestment Act contributed to the mortgage meltdown, and thus to the greater financial crisis, by requiring financial institutions to lend to unqualified borrowers. Now, the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives is responding to that situation by proposing to expand the scope and power of the Community Reinvestment Act.

This morning House Financial Services Committee chairman Rep. Barney Frank held a hearing on H.R. 1479, the “Community Reinvestment Modernization Act of 2009.” The bill’s purpose is “to close the wealth gap in the United States” by increasing “home ownership and small business ownership for low- and moderate-income borrowers and persons of color.” It would extend CRA’s strict lending requirements to non-bank institutions like credit unions, insurance companies, and mortgage lenders. It would also make CRA more explicitly race-based by requiring CRA standards to be applied to minorities, regardless of income, going beyond earlier requirements that applied solely to low- and moderate-income areas.

Is Obama planning an amnesty to give illegal immigrants health care?

Excerpt:

President Obama said this week that his health care plan won’t cover illegal immigrants, but argued that’s all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.

He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered – a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.

Man faces jail for hurting burglar who threatens his family (Link FIXED!)

Excerpt:

A millionaire businessman is facing jail for attacking a career criminal who had held his family hostage at knifepoint.

Munir Hussain, 52, was told he would be killed when three raiders invaded his home.

Obama removed political content from speech to students

Excerpt:

When conservatives complained that President Obama intended to indoctrinate children with his school speech, liberals howled with mock indignation.

But if the liberal Washington Post is to be believed (admittedly a risky proposition), conservatives had good reason to worry.

ECM sent some even better stories about marriage, parenting and courtship, but I’m keeping those for the weekend! They’re awesome!

Pregnant mom holds intruder at gunpoint until police arrive

Story from Local 15 TV News. (H/T John Lott)

Excerpt:

The lesson here is never threaten an expecting mother, especially if she’s armed with a shotgun.

“I was angry,” Randi Fairley says. “I was really mad that he was in my house.”

At around 4 A.M. Sunday, Fairley was wide awake, because her unborn daughter was kicking. That is when she heard a noise; it sounded like someone touching a potato-chip bag downstairs.

“I came and looked over the stairs,” Fairley says. “I saw this kid, down at the bottom of the stairs. He was about to grab my computer.”

Fairley is six and a half months pregnant. So, she says she yelled down at Justin Delhomme, he walked out of the house and she grabbed a shotgun. In the street, Fairley confronted the 18 year old. “He pulled a gun on me, and I told him, ‘You know, you need to put that away before I shoot you because mine’s bigger,’ and he put it back in his pocket.” . . . .

Video interview from Fox News is here.

The proper use of firearms is not to fire them, but to brandish them to prevent crimes. It’s even better when a women uses firearms to defend her children.
