I recently saw a debate between Michael Shermer and Dinesh D’Souza at SES (I saw the video of it). Michael seems like a nice guy, and he definitely is not as condescending as some atheists in these kinds of debates, but he really doesn’t advance his case very well.
I invited over about 10 people to watch the debate, and most of them had never heard the kinds of arguments Shermer was making before. I figured they would be fairly impressed with Shermer, but the overhwhelming impression was that his arguments were weak and that D’Souza did a much better job defending belief in God.
When you have facts on your side, debating is a lot easier!

Wow. Did you see my post with Michael Shermer and John Lennox? It’s got video and audio of the debate! I thought Shermer just failed miserably in this one. You’re right that he is civil, but come on. He basically pre-supposes naturalism and then proceeds to psycho-analyze belief without presenting or responding to any evidence.

I haven’t looked at it yet, but I plan to. Thanks for posting it.
