  1. Hello WK,

It has been a few years, but I am glad to find you still blogging and venturing out into video podcasting. Good Stuff! I remember guest blogging each other back in the day. I have been re-hauling my blog, and now that I am nearing retirement, I will be dedicating a lot more time to it. I will spend some time going through your blog and getting caught up. Talk soon.

  2. Excellent series.

It’s certainly extremely counter-cultural to note what Christians have done *through the Holy Spirit*, and there’s really no good answer from atheists (especially Darwinians).

For instance, if you ask Darwinians, why should we build hospitals or provide healthcare or advocate for those who were dealt a bad hand — and then ask them why not let the survival of the fittest or those who have the best genetics and environment survive — they really don’t have a good response.

Or if you ask them how they would naturalistically answer philanthropy/altruism — as in “Explain why do individuals engage in such” — they really don’t have a good answer other than things like “Well, I guess if we help others, they are more inclined to help us later, and that leads to better survival (or something like that).” It’s difficult in naturalistic explanations because for atheists and Social Darwinians, it is a zero-sum game.

Effectively, philanthropy and altruism equates to “giving away an advantage.”

I saw in some of the youtube comments that one of your responders is an atheist who took umbrage to your accusation that atheists are self-centered or are self-serving. I was thinking to myself: Many atheists would like to think they are magnanimous or “give generously.” Many agnostics and atheists would of course readily state they help their family, friends. (I can think of the various S0r0s related foundations and organizations.) …which leads me to think down several lines of thought: 1) we should look at their check books and see 1a/ what they spend on and 1b/ why, 2) how do they structure their time and why?

And to your point, I think if you get right down to it, the question that you are posing is: who is your / our ultimate authority? Who’s The Boss?

    Changing the topic:

Since the “Shiny Happy People” (IBLP, Duggars) episodes came out, it also brings up that many can quote the Bible and be knowledgeable about it, but it is telling when those who claims to be “Christian leaders” act no different than the unregenerate. Meaning as you mentioned on this episode that rulers and the elite of the Ancient Near East through to the Greco-Roman times (and even King John of the Magna Carta had a number of these tendencies) exhibited characteristics as you mentioned:

The ruler or king was above the law, even their own laws.
They could abuse or use any person beneath them
The vast majority were slaves (non-persons), viewed for their labor
The kings/rulers were interested in accumulating wealth and/or power (control)
There were different classes for the ruler, the elite/leaders, the masses (, and slaves) and different treatment
Elite/rulers didn’t do any work — it was beneath them.

So if “Christian” leaders act no different to the heathen leaders … and don’t exhibit repentance or the Holy Spirit doesn’t bug their consciences … I begin to suspect the Holy Spirit not to be directing their lives or they are squelching the Holy Spirit.
