Governor Scott Walker signs ban on pain-capable abortions

Good news from Life News.

Excerpt:

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination, signed a bill today barring abortions on unborn babies capable of feeling pain.

“For people, regardless of where they might stand, when an unborn child can feel pain I think most people feel it’s appropriate to protect that child,” the governor said.

A child’s ability to feel pain constitutes a “reasonable standard” for the state to offer protection.

“At five months, that’s the time when that unborn child can feel pain,” he added. “When an unborn child can feel pain, we should be protecting that child.”

The measure would disallow abortions after 20 weeks except to save the mother’s life or if she would suffer major, irreparable physical harm within the next 24 hours.

Abortions outside that criteria would be classified as felonies carrying a maximum sentence of three-and-a-half years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The parents of children aborted after that point can also sue abortionists for damages under the terms of the law.

It contains no exceptions for rape or incest — something that caused Democratic Party spokeswoman Kaylie Hanson to brand it “radical, dangerous, and lacks respect for half the population of Wisconsin.”

Oh well, too bad for the Democrats in Wisconsin.

I thought I would tell a bit about what a baby is like at 20 weeks, so we can put Democrat opposition to a ban on pain-capable abortion in perspective:

You are 20 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 18 weeks)

  • Baby now weighs about 11 ounces and is roughly 7 inches long.
  • Baby is 17 cm long crown to rump, and weighs about 310 grams.
  • The baby can hear and recognize the mother’s voice.
  • The mother will probably start feeling the first fetal movements.
  • The toenails and fingernails are growing.
  • The growth of hair on the rest of the body has started.
  • The skin is getting thicker.
  • The heart can now be heard with a stethoscope.

Your baby may react to loud sounds. Baby can actually hear noises outside of the womb. Familiar voices, music, and sounds that baby becomes accustomed to during their development stages often are calming after birth. This is an important time for sensory development since nerve cells serving each of the senses; taste, smell, hearing, sight, and touch are now developing into their specialized area of the brain.

Your baby now weighs about 11 ounces and at roughly 7 inches long they are filling up more and more of the womb. Though still small and fragile, the baby is growing rapidly and could possibly survive if born at this stage.

The Life News article noted that about a dozen states also banned abortions when the unborn child can feel pain. Makes you wonder about the states that don’t.

  1. Why not make an exception for rape or incest cases? So a woman who has gone through something traumatic wants to not carry the child of a rapist goes to prison.

    1. She has 20 weeks, but, of course, there is no good reason to kill the child of a rapist. None. That child is not guilty of rape or anything else frankly. Frederick Douglass was conceived in rape. I think he was pretty amazing. There are lots of folks walking around today who were conceived in rape, and their lives are valuable too: https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/i-told-her-i-was-conceived-in-rape.-she-told-me-she-wasnt-sure-my-life-was?utm_source=LifeSiteNews.com+Daily+Newsletter&utm_campaign=ca998c0381-LifeSiteNews_com_US_Headlines_06_19_2013&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0caba610ac-ca998c0381-397685045

Also, it might interest you to know that the majority of women who have abortions following rape are doubly traumatized – once by the rape, then by the abortion. (They know full well that it is a human being that is being killed by abortion.) Women who choose life following rape – I know two for sure – say it is the one good thing that came out of the wickedness of the rape.

And, of course, the horribly detrimental physical and psychological effects of abortion are well-documented: http://www.abortionfacts.com/reardon/the-after-effects-of-abortion

One of the worst physical post-abortive effects is the much higher tendency to miscarry, even after the most “gentle” (to the Mom, never to the child) of abortions early in gestation. So, a woman who is raped early in her life and who chooses abortion is actually greatly increasing the odds that, when she has wanted pregnancies, she will miscarry.

        1. You would kill your own child for the crime of her father?

I hope I am never raped, but if I am and I get pregnant, I would never think of killing my child. Every human life has value, not just the ones conceived in ideal circumstances.

          1. Are you also in favor of imprisoning all of the children of criminals who are currently locked up behind bars – or, worse, giving them the death penalty?

          2. Depends on their mental state and if they are at risk of commiting crimes like wk usuaully says in his blogs they need to be in a good home with both parents are they are more at risk for crime which in this senario you presented we might as well locked them up now.

the death penalty – they are many that deserve the death penalty like rapists yet we just let them serve time and if they behavior good in jail they can be set free in the world again.

          3. So, are you saying that, even if the children of criminals behind bars have not committed any crimes, we should lock them up, or give them the death penalty, merely because they are the children of criminals?

          4. Well from what i have read that is usually the conclusion, kids who don t have a father at home are more likely to commit crimes that children who have both parents

          5. But, if they have not committed a crime, you are still for the death penalty for them, just like the baby in the womb, conceived in rape? I just want to make sure that I am following you.

  2. While incest might be tricker as I am assuming in most cases it is a young girl trapped within her family and unable to get help in a speedy amount of time, raped women have 20 weeks, which is 4 months, to decide whether or not to carry their rapist’s child. A women can’t decide to get rid of a child within that amount of time? Is it really too much to ask of these victims to report on these monsters to get them locked up and if we are going to have legalize abortion, do it before the child (who is still human even if he/she is the product of rape) can feel pain?

  3. Most victims dont report their attackers because of fear. Some victims are children and tell their parents who in turn might not report the attacker.I mean look at R. Kelly and Josh Duggar both are known for commiting sexual acts agaimst minors but they are still allowed to walk free. R. Kelly is still making music and Josh Duggar is a married man and the people of America are looking at his act of molestation against his own sisters as a mistake and some even blame the girls for leading their brother on.

Speaking from something I know, there were several females in my family who were victims of rape, some by the same guy and even sired children. No one has yet to report him.

    1. Since these children from rape are already here, would you like to kill them because of their fathers? You have not mentioned a story where a girl had to to get an abortion at 5 months because she couldn’t get one at 3 months.

      1. Abortion should be a decision that the woman makes but you know her body aint hers, its at the will of society to do with it what they will so….. whatever

          1. Well rape is a decision a person makes unless they are mentally unstable. Yes some women do attract males by what they wear but inmodest clothing is not always the case because women whether dress like a nun or a street walker can be raped along with little girls and boys

        2. “Abortion should be a decision that the woman makes…”

Why should a woman be able to choose death for her child? It’s not her body. It’s not her choice. The child has a body of his own.

          1. Well children dont make their own decisions last time i checked. Many women choose either abortion or adoption or to raise the child – but the point is its a choice that she made and its her decision. If she raises the child she’ll just be another statistic on welfare which WK uses in his various post about encouraging families and god in the home and all that jazz. If she chooses adoption there is no guarantee the child will be either in a good home, many people abuse the system and if she chooses adoption she is then told by pro-lifers to change her mind because they dont like the choice she made.

          2. There are a lot of “reasons” to choose to murder an unborn baby, or to murder or harm anyone else, for that matter. However, the fact remains that an unborn baby, from conception on, is fully human and an individual person worthy of protection and love.

I’ve had four boys, and around the age of 20 weeks is when I began to get to know them. I knew one was hyper and headstrong, and that another was very quiet and peaceful, for example. Fully themselves, months before birth.

I just can’t imagine wanting to kill a child. It is very sad to me that you would be such a strong advocate for murder of innocent children. I wonder why you do that.

          3. The choice to murder a born child is also a choice. The choice to rape a woman is a choice too. Do you support all choices anybody can make? Or are some choices wrong because they violate the rights of others?

  4. The argument is that a fetus is a human with rights of his or her own and at the very, very least should be given the courtesy of being killed before it develops the capacity to feel pain and apparently that magic number is 20 weeks.
