The Week reports.

The terrorist group Boko Haram has left bodies rotting in the streets after an assault on the key town of Baga on the edge of Lake Chad.

Reports vary widely, but the death toll is estimated to be in the hundreds, with some reports placing it as high as 2,000.

The jihadists reportedly fired indiscriminately, attacking the key fishing and commercial centre with automatic weapons, petrol bomb and explosives.

“I escaped with my family in the car after seeing how Boko Haram was killing people … I saw bodies in the street. Children and women, some were crying for help,” Mohamed Bukar told Reuters.

A senior government official told the BBC that fleeing residents said the town was now “virtually non-existent” after buildings were set on fire, and that residents had not been given the chance to bury their dead.

This comes days after a multinational task force was forced to flee its base in the town. More than 10,000 people have escaped to neighbouring Chad, sparking fears of a major humanitarian disaster. A large number of those attempting to escape reportedly drowned while trying to cross Lake Chad.

The Islamist organisation is fighting to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria and the introduction of Sharia law.

[…]It continues to step up its attacks, taking control of large swathes of north eastern Nigeria over the past year despite President Goodluck Jonathan’s vow to defeat the militants. The country’s military, which is the largest in West Africa,  has also faced increasing criticism of its inability to deal with the threat.

The group regularly targets civilians, raping, murdering and kidnapping thousands of people. Last year it abducted over 200 schoolgirls from the village of Chibok.

The conflict has displaced over 1.5 million people and killed more than 10,000 last year. ·

NBC News reported on another recent Islamic terrorist homicide bombing.

Excerpt:

A bomb strapped to a girl aged around 10 years old exploded in a busy marketplace in the Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Saturday, killing at least 16 people and injuring more than 20, security sources said. “The explosive devices were wrapped around her body and the girl looked no more than 10 years old,” a police source said.

Maiduguri, the capital of northern Borno state, lies in the heartland of an insurgency by Islamist militant group Boko Haram, and is often hit by bomb attacks. A Nigerian security source said the bomb went off at 12:15 p.m. The girl was killed and the bodies of at least 16 victims were counted in one hospital by mid-afternoon, civilian joint task force member Zakariya Mohammed told Reuters. “Right now, there are 27 injured people in Borno Medical Hospital, while more were taken to other hospitals,” he said.

About 80 miles away in the Yobe state capital Damaturu, the army subdued an Islamist militant attack on Friday evening, but not before militants had torched several buildings, a Reuters reporter in the city and witnesses said.

The Boko Haram revolt is seen as the gravest security threat facing Nigeria, a country of 170 million people, and a serious challenge for President Goodluck Jonathan, who is seeking re-election in a national election set for Feb. 14.

I was thinking about what it is like for Islamic terrorists to kidnap, rape and murder unarmed civilians, and then I read this in my Sunday quiet time.

Psalm 10:

Why, O Lord, do you stand far away?
    Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor;
    let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul,
    and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the Lord.
In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him;
    all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
His ways prosper at all times;
    your judgments are on high, out of his sight;
    as for all his foes, he puffs at them.
He says in his heart, “I shall not be moved;
    throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.”
His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression;
    under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.
He sits in ambush in the villages;
    in hiding places he murders the innocent.
His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;
    he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket;
he lurks that he may seize the poor;
    he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.
10 The helpless are crushed, sink down,
    and fall by his might.
11 He says in his heart, “God has forgotten,
    he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”

12 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand;
    forget not the afflicted.
13 Why does the wicked renounce God
    and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”?
14 But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation,
    that you may take it into your hands;
to you the helpless commits himself;
    you have been the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer;
    call his wickedness to account till you find none.

16 The Lord is king forever and ever;
    the nations perish from his land.
17 O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
    you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear
18 to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
    so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

Sometimes, we are so far from a problem that all we can do is pray. But I will say that we should probably elect a President in 2016 who doesn’t call Islamic terrorism “senseless violence” and “workplace violence”, and warn us all to keep believing that Islam is a religion of peace. All Muslims are not terrorists, but when a terrorist attack occurs, it’s almost always a Muslim.

Christian woman tells Congress how Boko Haram murdered her father and brother

This is from the International Business Times. (H/T David Wood)

Excerpt:

Her father and brother were martyrs for the Christian faith, a Nigerian girl who survived the Boko Haram slaughter of her family told members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Wednesday. Deborah Peter, 15, recounted surviving a 2011 attack on her hometown by Boko Haram terrorists.

Peter is from Chibok, the northeast Nigerian town where close to 300 schoolgirls were taken captive in April by Boko Haram. She told U.S. House lawmakers how her brother and father were shot in front of her and the attackers put her between their dead bodies, threatening to kill her if she did not keep quiet.

There is a link to her statement before Congress, where you get the details:

“At 7:30 p.m., three men knocked on the door. My brother answered the door because he recognized one of the men as a Muslim in our community. The men asked where my dad was and I told them that he was in the shower.

The men waited. After three minutes, they went into the bathroom and dragged my dad into the main room. They said that my dad was wasting their time and that they did not have time to wait on him.
The men told my dad that he should deny his Christian faith. My dad told them that he would not deny his faith. They said that if he did not deny his faith they were going to kill him. My dad refused, saying that Jesus said whoever acknowledges Him in front of man, He will acknowledge in front of God; and whoever denies Him in front of man, He will deny in front of God in heaven.
My dad said that he would rather die than go to hellfire. After he told the men that, the men shot him three times in his chest.

My brother was in shock. He started demanding, ‘What did my dad do to you? Why did you shoot him?’
The men told him to be quiet or else they were going to shoot him too. Then, the men discussed whether they should kill my brother. One of the Boko Harams said they should kill Caleb, my brother. The second man said that he was just a boy and that he was too young to kill. But the third man said that they should make an exception in this case because Caleb will only grow up to be a Christian pastor. Caleb asked me to plead with them for his life but they told me to shut up or they would kill me too.

The leader agreed that they should kill him and shot my brother two times. My dad had still been breathing but when he saw them shoot Caleb, he died.

Now previously, the Obama administration had actually blocked the designation of Boko Haram as a terrorist group. Not just blocked, but fought hard to block, according to the leftist Daily Beast.

Look:

The State Department under Hillary Clinton fought hard against placing the al Qaeda-linked militant group Boko Haram on its official list of foreign terrorist organizations for two years. And now, lawmakers and former U.S. officials are saying that the decision may have hampered the American government’s ability to confront the Nigerian group that shocked the world by abducting hundreds of innocent girls.

[…]What Clinton didn’t mention was that her own State Department refused to place Boko Haram on the list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2011, after the group bombed the U.N. headquarters in Abuja. The refusal came despite the urging of the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, and over a dozen senators and congressmen.

“The one thing she could have done, the one tool she had at her disposal, she didn’t use. And nobody can say she wasn’t urged to do it. It’s gross hypocrisy,” said a former senior U.S. official who was involved in the debate. “The FBI, the CIA, and the Justice Department really wanted Boko Haram designated, they wanted the authorities that would provide to go after them, and they voiced that repeatedly to elected officials.”

In May 2012, then-Justice Department official Lisa Monaco (now at the White House) wrote to the State Department to urge Clinton to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organization. The following month, Gen. Carter Ham, the chief of U.S. Africa Command, said that Boko Haram “are likely sharing funds, training, and explosive materials” with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. And yet, Hillary Clinton’s State Department still declined to place Boko Haram on its official terrorist roster.

I guess Hillary was too busy pushing gay rights and abortion to notice threats of terrorism.

Previously, president Obama has spoken out in favor of Islam, as the Hindustan Times reported.

Excerpt:

Islam is a great religion but there is a need to isolate those who have distorted its vision, US President Barack Obama told a gathering of college students, in Mumbai on Sunday.

“Well, the phrase jehad has a lot of meanings within Islam. It is subject to lot of different interpretations. But I will say that first Islam is one of the world’s great religions and over a billion people practice Islam,” Obama said at the packed forecourt of St. Xavier’s College here.

You can read more about the great religion of peace in this story of a woman who is 8 months pregnant and shackled in a jail cell for the crime of being a Christian.

Her imprisonment is happening because of the Muslim government of Sudan. This pregnant Christian woman is scheduled to be executed by the Sudanese government for not being a Muslim, which they think she ought to be. I honestly do not understand how you can look at a pregnant woman who has a husband and another child and want to take her life. Just because she has different beliefs than you do. To me, it’s not possible to do that, morally speaking. But to the mainstream adherents of the religion of peace in the Sudanese government, it somehow makes a lot of sense.

State Department ignored Boko Haram for two years, under Hillary Clinton

Investors Business Daily takes a look at Hillary’s record.

Excerpt:

When the Global Terrorism Database of the University of Maryland’s National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism compiled its list of terrorist organizations and ranked them by the number of their terror acts in 2012, Afghanistan’s Taliban came in first. Boko Haram was not far behind.

The world’s attention is now focused on the kidnapping of some 300 girls from the Chibok Government Girls Secondary School in Lagos, Nigeria.

“I abducted your girls,” a man claiming to be Abubakar Shekau, the group’s leader, said in a video seen by the Guardian newspaper. “I will sell them in the market, by Allah. I will sell them off and marry them off. There is a market for selling humans.”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has joined the campaign to free the girls, expressing her concern in a May 4 tweet with the hashtag “BringBackOurGirls.” On Wednesday, she called the abduction “abominable” and “criminal.”

“It’s an act of terrorism,” she said, “and it really merits the fullest response possible, first and foremost from the government of Nigeria.”

Yet for two years, the State Department refused to acknowledge the growing threat and barbarism of Boko Haram. As Josh Rogin at The Daily Beast reports, the Clinton State Department “refused to place Boko Haram on the list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2011″ after the group bombed the United Nations headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

“The one thing she could have done, the one tool she had at her disposal, she didn’t use. And nobody can say she wasn’t urged to do it. It’s gross hypocrisy,” wrote Rogin, quoting a former senior U.S. official who was involved in the debate.

It’s been reported that the State Department was urged to act by the CIA, the FBI and yes, even the Justice Department. Not until November 2013 — 10 months after Clinton left State — did the U.S. finally list Boko Haram as a terrorist group after another round of church bombings.

In June 2012, Gen. Carter Ham, chief of U.S. Africa Command and the man who could have directed a Benghazi rescue attempt if so ordered, warned that Boko Haram provided a “safe haven” for al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (northern Africa) and was likely sharing explosives and funds with the group.

Yet Clinton’s State Department, as in the case of Benghazi, was unmoved by warnings of terrorist activity.

Rep. Patrick Meehan, R-Pa., chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, was one of many members of Congress who wrote “letter after letter” to the State Department since 2011 demanding action on Boko Haram.

“We lost two years of increased scrutiny,” Meehan says, noting that the response he got from the administration was eerily familiar to statements made about Benghazi. “They were saying al-Qaida was on the run, and our argument was contrary to that. It has metastasized and it is actually in many ways a growing threat, and this is a stark example of that.”

So, you might be thinking what I’m thinking right now… what was Hillary focused on when she was Secretary of State?

The American Spectator explains, in this 2011 article.

Excerpt:

In an address earlier this week in Geneva, Hillary announced that the imposition of the gay agenda on foreign governments now forms “a priority of our foreign policy.”

[…]”In our embassies, our diplomats are raising concerns about specific cases and laws, and working with a range of partners to strengthen human rights protections for all,” she said. “In Washington, we have created a task force at the State Department to support and coordinate this work. And in the coming months, we will provide every embassy with a toolkit to help improve their efforts. And we have created a program that offers emergency support to defenders of human rights for LGBT people.”

The American taxpayer will also have to pay for a gay rights propaganda fund Hillary has set up:

“I am also pleased to announce that we are launching a new Global Equality Fund that will support the work of civil society organizations working on these issues around the world. This fund will help them record facts so they can target their advocacy, learn how to use the law as a tool, manage their budgets, train their staffs, and forge partnerships with women’s organizations and other human rights groups. We have committed more than $3 million to start this fund, and we have hope that others will join us in supporting it.”

Thus will the State Department make the world safe for sex-change operations and gay marriage.

What’s more important? Gay rights, or Boko Haram? Hillary had two years to decide, and we know what her answer was.

Islamists kidnap 100 schoolgirls who face living hell as sex slaves

From the New York Post. (H/T Answering Muslims)

Excerpt:

Heavily armed Islamic extremists abducted at least 100 female students from a school in northeast Nigeria before dawn Tuesday, but some of the teens managed to escape from the back of an open truck, officials said.

The tragedy came one day after a bombing killed more than 70 people in the city of Abuja.

The girls were seized after midnight from a school in Chibok, on the edge of the Sambisa Forest, an insurgent hideout, said Borno state police commissioner Tanko Lawan.

Gunmen killed a soldier and police officer guarding the school, then took off with at least 100 students, a State Security Service official said.

Witnesses said the gunmen arrived in trucks and motorcycles and may have grabbed as many as 200 girls.

[…]Islamic extremists have been abducting girls to use as cooks and sex slaves.

Insurgents from the Boko Haram terrorist network are blamed for attacks that have killed more than 1,500 people this year.

[…]Boko Haram is also accused of Monday morning’s explosion at a busy bus station in Nigeria’s capital that killed at least 75 people and wounded 141.

Answering Muslims notes that the Qur’an allows Muslims to take captured women as sex slaves. It’s a far cry from the courtly love of Christians, isn’t it?

Boko Haram is, of course, an Islamic terrorist group. But don’t tell the Obama administration that, it’s “workplace violence caused by a Youtube video” if you ask them.

Boko Haram Muslims murder 59 unarmed Christian students in Nigeria

I did a search for this story, but the mainstream media stories from sources like the UK Guardian neglected to mention that the victims were Christians. But I finally found one that mentioned that the victims were Christians, in an Israeli news site called Arutz Sheva.

Excerpt:

Islamist terrorists murdered 59 middle school students in a pre-dawn attack Tuesday on a northeast Nigerian boarding school, authorities said.

The terrorists, thought to be from barbaric Islamist organization Boko Haram, set a locked hostel on fire, before shooting and slitting the throats of those who tried to climb out the windows. Some were burned alive, as most of the school was burned to the ground.

The attackers also reportedly hurled explosives into student residential buildings, sprayed gunfire into rooms and hacked a number students to death.

“Some of the students’ bodies were burned to ashes,” police commissioner Sanusi Rufai said of the attack on the federal government college of Buni Yadi, a secondary school in Yobe state, near the state’s capital city of Damaturu.

Bala Ajiya, an official at the Specialist Hospital Damaturu, said the death toll, originally set at 29, had risen to 59. “Fresh bodies have been brought in. More bodies were discovered in the bush after the students who had escaped with bullet wounds died from their injuries,” he said.

A senior medical source at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital in Yobe’s capital Damaturu said the gunmen only targeted male students – all teenage boys – and that female students were spared. Teachers at the school said the gunmen gathered the female students together before telling them to go away and get married, and to abandon their education.

Tuesday’s attack brings the toll from killings blamed on Boko Haram to more than 300 this month alone.

[…]The name Boko Haram means “Western education is sin.” The group aims is to replace Nigeria’s political leadership and establish a new state under Islamic sharia law.

The article also listed some other recent attacks:

In January, Islamist terrorists used explosives and heavy guns in an atrocious double-pronged attack that killed at least 100 civilians in Nigeria’s northeast on Sunday. One attack took place in the village of Kawuri in Borno state, and the other targeted worshippers during a Christian church service in Adamawa state.

Last September, 40 students were killed at an agricultural college during another night-time raid. massacring at least 50 students, in the latest attack by Islamist terrorists in the region.

Boko Haram has also reportedly been kidnapping Christian women from rural areas and forcing them to convert under threats of death. The women are then kept as slaves and child brides – and forced to help the terrorists kill innocent Nigerians.

Other than that, only UPI.com mentioned that Boko Haram normally targets Christian schools and churches:

Boko Haram is a militant Islamic group that has a history of committing violent attacks on Christian schools and churches in Nigeria.

I was listening to Hugh Hewitt on Monday or Tuesday night and he was asking some journalist from Mediaite why the mainstream media was ignoring this story. The journalist never answered. But I think the reason is obvious. Journalists are opposed to the Christian positions on social issues, because it cramps their pursuit of pleasure. So they would never portray Christians as victims, lest the public at large begin to have sympathy for Christianity. Christians always have to be portrayed as the villains by the mainstream media, in much the same way that Jews were in Nazi Germany.
